on the computer-based test. Applicants who take the Internet-based TOEFL are<br />
expected to test in all areas offered and achieve minimum scores as follows:<br />
writing, 19; listening, 22; reading, 23; and speaking, 23. TOEFL scores are to<br />
be submitted with the application by the January 5 deadline. Applicants who<br />
have passed General Certificate Examinations (GCE) should provide records. On<br />
occasion, the <strong>Seminary</strong> may use professional agencies to evaluate academic<br />
credentials submitted with the application.<br />
Applicants wishing to receive the Th.M. degree in either the Department of Biblical<br />
Studies or in the area of preaching (Department of Practical Theology) must have a<br />
knowledge of Greek and Hebrew.<br />
Applicants wishing to receive the Th.M. degree in the area of pastoral care<br />
(Department of Practical Theology) must have completed one unit of clinical<br />
pastoral education or a course in pastoral care and counseling or have equivalent<br />
pastoral experience, prior to matriculation.<br />
Applicants who receive notice of admission prior to February 15 must indicate to<br />
the director of admissions and financial aid by March 15 whether or not they will<br />
accept admission to the <strong>Seminary</strong>. Applicants receiving notification after February<br />
15 must indicate their decision within thirty days.<br />
Curriculum<br />
A total of twenty-four credits are required for the Th.M. degree. If the candidate<br />
wishes to present a research paper or thesis in partial fulfillment of the requirement,<br />
it shall be assigned six credits. Courses ordinarily must be taken in the area<br />
of the department in which the candidate is specializing. However, the student<br />
may be permitted to take courses in other areas of the department, or in areas of<br />
other departments, if in the judgment of the faculty adviser these courses are related<br />
to the student’s field of concentration. Th.M. candidates choose to concentrate<br />
on one of the following areas, which are organized under five broad categories:<br />

• Missions, Ecumenics, History of Religion (MEHR)<br />
3. Theology<br />
• Philosophy and Theology<br />

• Pastoral Care<br />
• Preaching<br />
• Worship Studies<br />
5. Religion and Society<br />
