COUNCIL MINUTES TUESDAY 20 DECEMBER 2011 CR11.159 STATION STREET (BARRETT STREET TO CREECH LANE) - PARKING RESTRICTION AMENDMENTS PURPOSE OF REPORT: To obtain approval to modify kerbside parking restrictions on the west side of Station Street between Barrett Street and Creech Lane. BACKGROUND: Kerbside parking restrictions have been progressively implemented in many streets within the Town, in accordance with Policy No. 5.2.22. In general, this has been done to improve the safety and amenity of residents. Requests are regularly received from directly affected residents to modify the posted restrictions over short distances to address changed circumstances and requirements which would not negate the original intent of the restrictions. Minor changes at times also become necessary due to the introduction of traffic management devices. Policy No. 5.2.22 (i)(b) states that:- "Parking restrictions shall be reviewed when: Requested by the adjacent property owner or occupier in writing; Considered necessary by the Town; Requested by other persons in writing". A report on amendments to parking restrictions, at various sites, which include the proposal to vary the parking restrictions in Station Street, on the west side between Barrett Street and Creech Lane was considered by Council at its meeting held on 22 November 2011 (Report CR11.140). During discussion, Cr Langer suggested that the proposed parking restrictions in Station Street - Barrett Street to Creech Lane be referred back to the Committee to enable consultation to be undertaken with adjacent residents. Council then decided: "That the proposed parking restrictions in Station Street - Barrett Street to Creech Lane, west side, to "2 Hour Parking 8.00am to 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday" be referred back to the Community and Resources Committee for further consideration." DETAILS: This small section of Station Street, approximately 50 metres, has posted parking restrictions indicating "No Parking Road or Verge, Residential Permit Parking Excepted". The adjacent residence faces Barrett Street and the residents have sufficient unrestricted on-road parking for themselves and their visitors on that street.
