Halesworth Road - this is scheduled in Year 2 pending the outcome of the Wembley
Sports Park plans.
Herdsman Parade - this is scheduled in Year 1 to coincide with resurfacing of this
section of Herdsman Parade with grant funding. The recent developments on the
north side of Herdsman Parade, between Selby Street and Marlow Street has
significantly increased pedestrian traffic.
Teslin Road - this is scheduled in Year 2 since it is a short road with low traffic.
Tilton Terrace - this is scheduled in Year 2 pending community consultation. The
scheduled replacement of a short section of slab path on Tilton Terrace will depend
on which side the new path is constructed.
2. Replacement of Slab Paths - The proposed program for upgrading slab footpaths to
concrete footpaths was developed in consideration of:-
There are approximately 23 kilometres of slab footpath remaining after June 2012.
At the current funding, all remaining slab footpaths can be upgraded over a 5 year
program at a rate of 4.6 kilometres each year.
Condition of the existing slab path – the poorest condition rated paths are listed in
the first years of the program.
High pedestrian use or high traffic volume on adjacent road.
Paths adjacent to hospitals, schools, commercial centres, recreational centres and
bus stops.
Community requests - Daglish Street, Dodd Street, Station Street, Linden Gardens,
Salvado Road.
Complete the footpaths on whole roads rather than isolated sections.
The remaining sections of slab path on Salvado Road are currently deferred to Year 5
until the plans for a shared path on Salvado Road, between Jersey and Haydn Bunton
Drive are known.
POLICY/STATUTORY IMPLICATIONS:
The recommendation is in accordance with Council Policy No. 5.2.5 “Footpaths – Upgrading
Of”.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
There are no Financial Implications related to this report other than consideration of setting
appropriate levels of funding for the Draft 2012/13 Budget.
The current 2011/12 Budget provides a total of:-
$554,400 for upgrading 5.0 kilometres of slab footpaths;
$93,000 for construction of 0.75 kilometres of new paths; and
$500,000 for the new shared path program.
Total funding is $1,147,000 for the current budget year.
