THIS SUMMER
Why choose YMCA Summer Camps?
Summer camps at the Y focus on nurturing the
potential of children and helping them grow in
spirit, mind and body. We encourage fun and
friendship and provide the opportunity for
young people to build self-esteem, develop
interpersonal skills and make lasting memories.
Summer camp also provides kids with the things
they need to succeed in school by providing
engaging, hands-on education-based activities
that help kids avoid summer learning loss.
Rest assured your kids are in a safe environment at the Y. Our
highly qualified staff receive over 40 hours of preparation prior
to interacting with campers and are CPR certified.
Our programs reinforce 40 key Developmental Assets that help
young people successfully meet life’s challenges. Summer camp
specifically focuses on the following assets: positive adult role
models, other adult relationships, creative activities, positive
values and conflict resolution. To learn more about the 40
Developmental Assets visit www.search-institute.org.
Summer Camp Is More Than A Good Time
Todd Medrano and his wife certainly have their hands full with a
teenage son and two younger daughters. But their busy lifestyle
quickly came to a halt when their youngest girl, 8-year-old Jessica,
was diagnosed with leukemia. Intense
treatment and chemotherapy is wearing not
only on Jessica, but the rest of her family
too, especially her 10-year-old sister, Emily,
who isn’t allowed to visit Jessica much in the
hospital due to the severity of the disease.
By providing the Medranos with muchneeded
financial assistance, YMCA Camp
Cristina engages Emily’s mind, body and soul while her parents
tend to their ill daughter and tackle mounting medical bills. “You
are helping provide a safe place for my daughter while her sister
encounters a most difficult time. This is more helpful than words
can say. My heart will be forever grateful. Thank you for making this
difficult time a bit easier for all of us,” says Todd.
A gift of $750 helps change the odds so that one
child can attend camp for the entire summer.
