The thunderstorm’s just caught us. We
stop under a motorway bridge. The rain
gear is ready, we just have to pull it on. It’s
bucketing down. A group of bikers are talking
about their own experiences, when that road
rapidly turned into a river in flood. You smile
as you listen. We’re all on first name terms,
engineers, truck drivers and lawyers. They
