Appendix A | Design Guidelines<br />
Additional Discussion – Rack Installation<br />
Racks will be affixed to <strong>City</strong> sidewalks or other concrete pad location by the utilization <strong>of</strong> v<strong>and</strong>al-resistant hardware provided by the<br />
installer <strong>and</strong> approved by the city.<br />
Racks will be installed in locations as designated by the city. In most cases racks will be sited for installation in clusters for a significant<br />
length <strong>of</strong> busy business districts.<br />
Racks will be installed or removed in/from locations as designated by the city.<br />
All bicycle racks shall be installed at locations approved by city staff. All installations shall conform to Americans with Disabilities Act<br />
(ADA) requirements.<br />
All bolt holes shall be clean <strong>of</strong> dust or any debris. The anchoring bolts should be driven vertically through the support plate into the<br />
bolt holes until the bolt head is firmly seated against the support plate.<br />
For pavement surfaces that are not level use washers to level the rack <strong>and</strong> support plate. Fill with non-shrinking grout after the bicycle<br />
rack is mounted to the concrete.<br />
Do not place bicycle rack over any pavement expansion or control joint. <strong>Bicycle</strong> rack shall be placed at least 3 inches away from any<br />
expansion <strong>and</strong> or control joints in the cement.<br />
Requirements for Multiple <strong>Bicycle</strong> Parking Installation<br />
• <strong>Bicycle</strong> racks can be placed perpendicular or parallel to a building.<br />
• <strong>Bicycle</strong> racks should be placed at least 24 to 30 inches from a wall or structure.<br />
• When racks are placed side by side each rack should be spaced at least 30 to 48 inches from one another. Measured from the<br />
center <strong>of</strong> the rack.<br />
• There should be sufficient room for a rider <strong>and</strong> a bicycle to fit in the aisle, <strong>and</strong> the total width between bicycle racks should<br />
be at least 5 feet wide.<br />
