FACILITIES IMPROVEMENTS<br />
SPORTS FACILITIES<br />
We are very pleased to report that our new changing<br />
facility and classroom on the Highbury site behind the<br />
Music <strong>School</strong> has been completed on time and budget and<br />
will be in full use from September. Known as the Pavilion, it<br />
comprises a large classroom, changing facilities with<br />
showers, and a staff office. Refurbishment of the netball<br />
and tennis courts will now start with the aim of having these<br />
ready for September as well. When complete, we will have<br />
courts which meet the standard for school, local league and<br />
club netball and tennis.<br />
HIGHBURY HOUSE<br />
When the school transferred to Academy status last August,<br />
the Local Authority transferred responsibility for Highbury<br />
House, the base for the North Hertfordshire Music <strong>School</strong>,<br />
to <strong>Hitchin</strong> <strong>Girls</strong>’ <strong>School</strong> to allow the school to have greater<br />
use of the building during the school day. Since then, major<br />
refurbishment has been underway including repairs to<br />
plaster, new heating, improvements to lighting, redecoration<br />
and new flooring. All this has taken place whilst<br />
still allowing the rooms to be used for Music during the day<br />
and for Music <strong>School</strong> classes in the evening. This work will<br />
be completed for September when the school will use three<br />
of the larger rooms in the building as classrooms. Individual<br />
Music lessons will still take place in the remaining rooms<br />
and the Music <strong>School</strong> will continue to operate in the<br />
evening and at weekends.<br />
SCIENCE LABORATORIES<br />
Over the past few years we have been refurbishing and<br />
upgrading our Science laboratories. Eight have been<br />
completed so far with one remaining. We are very pleased<br />
