Species name of your observed specimen: ‣ Note the gliding movement. What causes it? ‣ Using forceps, gently turn your flatworm over. Observe and describe the righting response. ‣ How long does the righting response take? ‣ Does the worm avoid obstacles such as a needle or probe without touching them? ‣ Locate the eyespots and the “ears” or auricular organs. These organs contain chemoreceptors for detection of specific molecules (eg. “smell”/olfaction). Place a small piece of liver in the dish and observe and record how the worm responds.
