About the contributors Iain Begg is professorial research fellow at the European Institute, London School of Economics. He has published extensively in academic journals and served as co-editor of the Journal of Common Market Studies, the leading academic journal focusing on the study of European integration, from 1998 to 2003. Gabriel Glöckler is deputy head of the EU Institutions & Fora Division of the Directorate General International and European Relations at the European Central Bank. Anke Hassel is professor of public policy at the Hertie School of Governance, Berlin. She is also visiting professor at the London School of Economics. She is the author of Wage Setting, Social Pacts and the Euro (2007). Dermot Hodson is a lecturer in political economy at Birbeck College, University of London. He previously worked as an economist at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs. Nikos Koutsiaras is a lecturer at the University of Athens and senior research fellow at ELIAMEP. He publishes widely on European integration, EMU employment and labour market issues policy, including “The European Constitution after (a period of) reflection” (ELIAMEP, 2007). Roger Liddle is chair of Policy Network and a visiting fellow at the LSE’s European Institute. He was economic adviser to the European Commission president José Manuel Barroso until October 2007 and for seven years from 1997 European adviser to then British Prime Minister, Tony Blair. His most recent publication is Beyond New Labour (2009, with Patrick Diamond). Alan Mayhew is Jean Monnet Professor and professorial fellow at the European Institute, Sussex University. He is a special adviser to the European Commission and a member of the international advisory panel to the Polish government for the preparation of the 2011 EU Presidency. About the contributors 7
