Foreword by the President
Dear Delegates,
2011 was a really special year for CSV.
We organized ten indoor and eleven beach volleyball events in our continent; Moreover, we participated on
twelve tournaments outside our continent. It was a record for CSV.
Amongst the events, I would like to emphasize the three world championships. Argentina, Brazil and Peru showed to the world
our organizational capacity.
In comparison to the events organized by the more developed centers of volleyball worldwide, our events were at the same
level. On the contrary, our Youth and Junior’s championships have had an organizational level of a senior event.
We cannot forget to highlight that, for the first time, an under-15 / under-16 South American Championship were organized.
Every development has to start from the bottom and in our understanding these categories are the base of everything,
because they are directly connected to the school sports.
To massify volleyball in schools is the easiest way to attract young people to our sport.
In beach volleyball, the technical and organizational improvement was clear. Every organized event had a better organizational
level than the past years.
In the Women’s events, in seven stages of the South American beach volleyball circuit we had 4 different countries as winners.
In the Men’s events, Brazil and Venezuela still have the hegemony, but the technical difference between the teams is getting
smaller every season.
At the Pan-American Games in Guadalajara, 3 of the 4 Men’s finalists were from CSV.
We organized two assemblies in 2011, one ordinary in February and one elective in October.
The presence of FIVB’s President, the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, the President of the Brazilian Olympic Committee, the
Executive Director of the Ministry of Sports of Brazil, The Sports Secretary of Rio de Janeiro and many other national and
International authorities in our Congress confirmed how much we are respected and admired in Brazil and all over the world.
In 2011, we invested in the National Federations, either by hiring coaches, helping financially to organize the championships,
buying flight tickets for the teams, sending support to the organization of the World Championship, VIS Courses and others
around USD 250.000,00. We also spent USD 35.000,00 in prize money for beach volleyball and USD 180.000,00 in flight
tickets for the teams to compete in our beach volleyball circuit.
Following I present an overview of the events carried out under the coordination of the South American Confederation.
