Transceivers, Module Connectors, and Cable
Specifications
Revised: October 13, 2011
This chapter describes the pluggable transceivers, connectors, and cables used with the Catalyst 6500
series switches. The chapter is divided into these sections:
• Pluggable Transceivers, page B-1
• Module Connectors, page B-24
• Cables, page B-31
• Cleaning the Fiber-Optic Connectors, page B-38
Pluggable Transceivers
This section provides brief descriptions of the pluggable transceivers that install in Catalyst 6500 series
modules and supervisor engines.
The section is divided into these topics:
• 100-MB Transceivers, page B-1
• 1-GB Transceivers, page B-3
• 10-GB Transceivers, page B-10
• WDM Transceivers, page B-17
100-MB Transceivers
100-MB Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) transceivers are currently the only 100-MB transceivers
that are supported on a Catalyst 6500 series Ethernet switching module. They are supported only on the
WS-X6148-FE-SFP Ethernet module.
The 100-MB SFP transceiver module is shown in Figure B-1. Table B-1 lists the types of 100-MB SFP
transceivers and their cabling distances.
Note
The 100-MB and the 1-GB SFP transceivers share the same form factor, but are not interchangeable.
