Removing and Installing the AC-Input Power Supplies<br />

Note<br />

The following power supply restrictions exist for the <strong>Catalyst</strong> <strong>6500</strong> series chassis:<br />

• The 6000 W and the 8700 W power supplies are limited to 4000 W when they are installed in the<br />

<strong>Catalyst</strong> 6506, <strong>Catalyst</strong> 6509, and <strong>Catalyst</strong> 6509-NEB chassis.<br />

• The 8700 W power supply is limited to 4500 W when it is installed in a <strong>Catalyst</strong> 6509-NEB-A<br />

chassis.<br />

• The 8700 W power supply is limited to 6000 W when it is installed in a <strong>Catalyst</strong> 6513 chassis.<br />

Removing and Installing the 950 W and 1400 W AC-Input Power Supplies<br />

This section describes how to remove and install the 950 W and 1400 W AC-input power supplies for<br />

the <strong>Catalyst</strong> 6503 and the <strong>Catalyst</strong> 6503-E switches. The section is divided into the following topics:<br />

Note<br />

The 950 W and 1400 W AC-input power supplies can be installed in the <strong>Catalyst</strong> 6503 and the<br />

<strong>Catalyst</strong> 6503-E switch chassis only.<br />

Required Tools<br />

You might need a flat-blade or number 2 Phillips-head screwdriver to loosen or tighten the captive<br />

installation screws on the power supply.<br />

Removing a 950 W or 1400 W AC-Input Power Supply<br />

Warning<br />

Hazardous voltage or energy is present on the backplane when the system is operating. Use<br />

caution when servicing. Statement 1034<br />

Note<br />

In systems with redundant power supplies, you can replace the faulty supply while the system is<br />

operating.<br />

This procedure covers the removal of the power supply only. For information on removing the power<br />

entry module (PEM), see the “Removing and Installing PEMs” section on page 4-75.<br />
