Dear readers,
Welcome to the new edition of Teletimes.
As you must be well aware of the fact that
for the past few months we have been
making efforts for the intensive expansion
of Teletimes; the good news is that the
International Office for Teletimes has been
established in Muscat (Oman) which will
operate on a global level. Besides that, two
regional offices have also been established
in Riyadh and Giza. The Riyadh Office will
deal with KSA, Bahrain and Kuwait and the
Giza (Egypt) office will look after Teletimes
interests in the North African Countries.
Soon Teletimes Bureau Offices will be
opened in Lebanon, Jordan and Syria as
well.
More good news, which in fact is also very
encouraging for Teletimes’ team is that Dr.
Alaa Bader Al Hindawi has joined our Board
of Advisors.
Dr. A. B. Hindawi is one the most proficient
and dynamic people in the telecom industry
today. In addition to his extraordinary
personality, he has received high education
from different institutions. He got a
Bachelors degree in Economics, and later
completed his Masters in the same subject,
after which he did his PhD in Crisis
Management
Dr. Hindawi has worked in Saudi Arabia
and the GCC, where he was responsible for
markets in the Middle East, North Africa
and Asia Pacific regions before coming to
Oman to start his own company. He has
worked for Telecom equipment vendors,
service providers and also as a consultant
to operators.
This edition of Teletimes has been
dedicated to COMEX 2011 which will take
place from 25th to 29th of April in Muscat.
COMEX is Oman’s premier event for the IT,
telecom & technology industry. Teletimes is
the media partner of COMEX 2011 for the
2nd consecutive year.
The SAMENA Telecommunications
council is organizing ‘Beyond Connectivity
Conference 2011’ in Abu Dhabi from the
25th of April till the 27th. As the media
partner of SAMENA Telecom Council,
Teletimes will maintain its presence in the
event. The next edition will contain postevent
reports on the Beyond Connectivity
Conference and COMEX 2011.
This edition contains a post-event report
on one of the Asia’s biggest events,
‘Convergence India 2011’, which took place
on 24th and 25th March 2011 in New Delhi.
Teletimes has been a media partner of
‘Convergence India 2011’ for the last three
years. This edition also contains a report
on SAMENA Telecommunications Council’s
Broadband Summit which took place in
Muscat on 7th March 2011.
As always, this edition of Teletimes
contains two important interviews. The
first, of Mr. Talal Sulaiman Al Rahbi,
Deputy CEO, IT Authority, Oman, and
the second of Mr. Raheel Kamal, Head
of Business Operations for Central Asia,
Qualcomm.
Amir Malik has contributed his writing
on a very important topic, “Child Online
Protection”, which will be will very
interesting for all readers. Tom’s Corner
contains an informative article titled
“Cross Connect” by Thomas Wilson, CEO,
SAMENA.
Arthur D. Little’s report, “Capturing value in
the mHealth Oasis” compiled by Dr. Karim
Taga is also part of this edition along with
numerous reports regarding Etisalat, STC,
FTTH Council, du, Nawrus, Batelco, Thuraya,
PakSat, O3b Networks, COMMSCOPE,
PTCL, Synchronica and Alcatel-Lucent.
