A gardening story

Our office building at Odfjell Terminals
(Jiangyin) (OTJ) is surrounded by a lovely
garden that used to be managed by a
gardening company. One day the General
Manager came up with the brilliant idea;
– why not do it ourselves? This could be
really positive for the employees as many
of us live in apartments and don’t have
the possibility of working in a garden.
Given that gardening work is supposed
to be relaxing for the body and good for
a peaceful mind, it could be beneficial in
many ways.
Idea and practice
The idea was to establish our own gardening
group that could take the responsibility of
upgrading and maintaining the company
garden to maintain its current beauty. This
would give many of us the pleasure of doing
gardening work when time allowed. The
gardening group started up in August and
everyone was very excited. The lawn was
overgrown by grass and weeds, but after the
gardening session, all the weeds were gone
and the lawn was clean and tidy. During the
gardening session, everybody had a good
time; talking, laughing and helping each
other, everybody seemed to enjoy participating
in this project.
The gardening story will continue
The garden will continue bringing OTJ
happiness, which also helps to make
employees’ dreams of having a big beautiful
garden themselves, come true. It’s a ‘win-win’

situation! The garden will continue to teach
us important lessons which will also help
strengthen team work and make us proud
of our company and the appearance of our
workplace. When the spring comes, we will
plant our favourite flowers on the lawn, and
when you come to OTJ again, you will hopefully
find it is even more beautiful than last time.

“GO MARINO GO!”

Odfjell in the Philippines (OiP), along with
other reputable organisations and industry
stakeholders, joined the 5th Seafarers’ Fun
Run on 1 October. The event was organised
by the Filipino Association for Mariners’
Employment, Inc. (FAME) and it embraced
the theme “GO MARINO GO! —HEALTHY
BODY, HEALTHY MIND”.
The event attracted runners and participants
from all across Manila. OiP was represented by
16 shore staff and six cadets who participated
in the 5 km and 10 km races. According to the
OiP runners, the event was a good way to get
everybody active and get to know members
of the sailing community in the Philippines.
– For us, victory is not only found at the finish
line. The experience in itself is our prize for
joining, says Julie Ann Baracael, one of the
runners from OiP.
