Odfjell Terminals (Dalian):
Clean, restored and ready!

With the support of Odfjell Terminals BV and
Dalian Port Company (PDA), the necessary
dedication of our employees and the industrial
contractors, Odfjell Terminals (Dalian)
Ltd. (OTD) finally completed the hard work of
cleaning up and repairing the facilities that were
stained and damaged in the explosion and fire
at a neighbouring terminal on July 16, 2010.
It is really good to see all the infrastructures in
good working order; the railway station, the motor
control centre, the truck handling facilities, truck
operation room and the main entrance with the
new gate-house. Likewise the long-lost and
familiar ‘process control picture’s on the screen
of computers’ monitors at centre control room.
A brick wall on the boundary between OTD and
the neighbouring facility has been erected as a
measure to prevent possible future external risks.
Restoring
OTD started the first commissioning of restoring
facilities in the middle of September with a slow
running locomotive followed by a train of rail
wagons. The railroad ground and newly installed
rail tracks were tested by the railway company of
PDA. Other equipment, including switchgears,
electric driven motor pumps, tank radar systems,
emergency shut-off valves and fire fighting control
valves, as well as foam systems, were carefully
inspected and tested one by one by a joint team
consisting of technicians and engineers from OTD
and the PDA electric company. A milestone was
reached in the restoration work on October 18
when OTD successfully replaced the temporary
high voltage power source supplied by a temporary
transformer with a permanent power supply.
During the long process of restoration work, we
were faced with numerous unexpected difficulties
and challenges. The OTD team managed and
overcame these challenges one by one, by finding
good, safe and practical solutions. With the good
support of our valued customers and extraordinary
work performance by our colleagues, OTD
has exceeded the operational and financial targets
set for 2011.
