• International competitiveness rating<br />
(Institute for Management Development, Lausanne)<br />
23rd place in the comparison of 55 countries. The rating describes the<br />
Estonian business environment, export capacity, openness, development of<br />
infrastructure. Compared to the last year the rating has fallen by one place.<br />
• Global competitiveness rating<br />
(World Economic Forum, Geneva)<br />
32nd place in the comparison of 134 countries. The rating describes the<br />
state’s capability to guarantee the sustainable economic growth in the<br />
medium long period. The latter is based on the information which describes<br />
the state’s development phase depending on whether the development<br />
is carried out based on resources, technology or innovation.<br />
Compared to the last year the rating has fallen by 5 places.<br />
• International human development index<br />
(UNO)<br />
42nd place in the ranking of 179 countries. The index considers the educational<br />
level, age, economic development level of citizens etc. Compared<br />
to the year 2007 the rise is by 2 places.<br />
• International index of economic freedom<br />
(The Heritage Foundation)<br />
12th place in the comparison of 162 countries. No changes with a year. The<br />
basis of assessment is the commercial policy, national intervention, financial<br />
policy, percentage of black market in economy etc.<br />
• International corruption index<br />
(Transparency International)<br />
27th place in the ranking of 180 countries. The corruption is the lowest in<br />
the country at the first place. A year ago the Estonian position was worse<br />
by one place.<br />
• International rating describing the capability of fulfilment<br />
of the long-term foreign obligations<br />
(Standard & Poors)<br />
A/A–1. The basis is the structural reforms carried out in the country, volume<br />
of direct investments, fiscal and financial policy. The rating “A“ means<br />
that the state is totally reliable.<br />
• International information technology index<br />
(World Economic Forum)<br />
18th place in the comparison of 134 countries. The basis is the use of IT in<br />
promoting the state economy. Compared to the last year Estonia has risen<br />
by two places.<br />
• Bertelsmann’s transformation index<br />
(Bertelsmann Media Worldwide)<br />
Estonia has the 3rd place among 125 countries. It describes the development<br />
of the market economy and democracy in the country through the<br />
speed and effectiveness of such reforms. The place of Estonia has not<br />
changed within the last year.<br />
• Tourism competitiveness index<br />
(World Economic Forum)<br />
Estonia has the 27th place among 133 countries. The index considers the<br />
governing security in the state, transport and IT infrastructure, natural and<br />
cultural resources, health and hygiene conditions. Estonia has fallen by<br />
one place within the last year. •<br />
