The project “Business home of the young“ submitted<br />

by the business centre of Tartu University<br />

won in the category of promoting entreprisingness.<br />

70 young people have participated in the<br />

project and six independent companies have<br />

been established, the fields of activities of which<br />

are from the information technology up to the<br />

construction of wooden boats.<br />

In specifying the winners and the best ones the<br />

common over-European methodology was<br />

used. The evaluation was based on the originality<br />

of initiative, impact on local economy proceeding<br />

from both short term and long-term<br />

perspective and the sustainability of the project.<br />

Also, it was considered to what extent different<br />

hobby groups have been involved in<br />

implementation and carrying out of the project<br />

and which are the usage possibilities of obtained<br />

experience in other districts.<br />

The members of the jury of the national competition<br />

“Acknowledge the Promoter of Entrepreneurship<br />

2009“ consisted of Keit Kasemets,<br />

startegical director of State Chancellery as the<br />

chairman of the jury, Lauri Tammiste, the head<br />

of department of economic development of the<br />

Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications,<br />

Egle Käärats, vice chancellor of the<br />

labour sector of the Ministry of Social Affairs,<br />

Ülari Alamets, member of the management<br />

board of Enterprise Estonia, Siim Raie, the general<br />

director of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce<br />

and Industry and professor Tiit Elenurm,<br />

head of the chair of entrepreneurship of the<br />

Estonian Business School.<br />

The competition European Enterprise awards is<br />

organised by the European Commission for the<br />

fourth time. The aim of competition is to acknowledge<br />

the best initiatives focused on the<br />

promotion of entrepreneurship.<br />

Last year the total of 350 initiatives were submitted<br />

in the member states of the European<br />

Union, 47 of which participated in the over-<br />

European competition.<br />

In 2008 the competition of business plans of the<br />

young “Ajujaht“ (Brainstorm) carried out in<br />

cooperation with BDA and Enterprise Estonia<br />

and the project “Studying village“ of the nonprofit<br />

organisation Kodukant were recognised<br />

the Estonian best projects promoting entrepreneurship.<br />
