Purpose:<br />

A <strong>School</strong> <strong>Psychologist</strong> <strong>Paraprofessional</strong> is a specially trained mental health<br />

professional who works with children, teachers, and parents to make the school<br />

experience a positive and rewarding one and assists students in reaching the<br />

educational and emotional potential.<br />

Responsible to: Director of Special Services, Principal and <strong>School</strong> <strong>Psychologist</strong><br />

Date: February 2006<br />

Qualifications:<br />

1. Bachelors degree in psychology or education from an accredited college/university.<br />

2. Experience in using various computers and computer programs.<br />

3. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.<br />

4. Desire to continue career improvement.<br />

Essential Functions:<br />

1. Assist school psychologist in facilitating the understanding of child and emotional<br />

development.<br />

2. Assist school psychologist in administering individual tests to help determine specific<br />

needs of students.<br />

3. Assist school psychologist in developing programming designed to meet individual needs<br />

of students.<br />

4. Assist school psychologist in development of goals and strategies for educational<br />

improvement.<br />

5. Assist school psychologist to ensure all activities conform to district guidelines.<br />

6. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.<br />

7. Work effectively with community organizations and outside agencies.<br />

8. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.<br />

9. Support the value of education.<br />

10. Support the mission and philosophy of USD 260.<br />

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:<br />

1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.<br />

2. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy<br />

objects or materials.<br />

3. Occasional stooping, bending and reaching.<br />

4. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.<br />

5. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.


General Responsibilities:<br />

1. Assist school psychologist in conducting formal and informal assessments to determine a<br />

child's ability, learning styles, achievement level, emotional development and social skills<br />

in an effort to identify appropriate educational services to individual students.<br />

2. Assist school psychologist in assisting teachers and parents in developing an appropriate<br />

individual education plan for students.<br />

3. Ensure that Kansas State Board of Education guidelines for Special Education are met.<br />

4. Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.<br />

5. Assist school psychologist in assisting teachers in the development and implementation of<br />

curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom instruction.<br />

6. Assist school psychologist in maintaining an inventory of materials, tests and supplies.<br />

7. Assist school psychologist in maintaining appropriate, confidential records and provide<br />

timely reports.<br />

8. Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.<br />

9. Assist school psychologist in obtaining advance approval for all special activities and<br />

expenditures.<br />

10. Adhere to all district and cooperative health and safety policies including all precautions<br />

of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.<br />

11. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services, principal and school<br />

psychologists which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for<br />

the position.
