Purpose:
A School Psychologist Paraprofessional is a specially trained mental health
professional who works with children, teachers, and parents to make the school
experience a positive and rewarding one and assists students in reaching the
educational and emotional potential.
Responsible to: Director of Special Services, Principal and School Psychologist

Qualifications:
1. Bachelors degree in psychology or education from an accredited college/university.
2. Experience in using various computers and computer programs.
3. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
4. Desire to continue career improvement.
Essential Functions:
1. Assist school psychologist in facilitating the understanding of child and emotional
development.
2. Assist school psychologist in administering individual tests to help determine specific
needs of students.
3. Assist school psychologist in developing programming designed to meet individual needs
of students.
4. Assist school psychologist in development of goals and strategies for educational
improvement.
5. Assist school psychologist to ensure all activities conform to district guidelines.
6. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
7. Work effectively with community organizations and outside agencies.
8. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
9. Support the value of education.
10. Support the mission and philosophy of USD 260.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
2. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy
objects or materials.
3. Occasional stooping, bending and reaching.
4. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
5. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.

General Responsibilities:
1. Assist school psychologist in conducting formal and informal assessments to determine a
child's ability, learning styles, achievement level, emotional development and social skills
in an effort to identify appropriate educational services to individual students.
2. Assist school psychologist in assisting teachers and parents in developing an appropriate
individual education plan for students.
3. Ensure that Kansas State Board of Education guidelines for Special Education are met.
4. Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
5. Assist school psychologist in assisting teachers in the development and implementation of
curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom instruction.
6. Assist school psychologist in maintaining an inventory of materials, tests and supplies.
7. Assist school psychologist in maintaining appropriate, confidential records and provide
timely reports.
8. Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
9. Assist school psychologist in obtaining advance approval for all special activities and
expenditures.
10. Adhere to all district and cooperative health and safety policies including all precautions
of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
11. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services, principal and school
psychologists which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for
the position.
