samples including anthracite background, Radiocarbon<br />

standard preparation (35) and sediment ,am pIes for which<br />

carbon content was determined but could not be dated due<br />

to lack <strong>of</strong> enough organic carbon. Nearly hair the number<br />

<strong>of</strong> samples dated relate to various research projects <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Quaternary Palynology Department <strong>of</strong> the rnstitute.<br />

The Laboratory has also dated 28 samples pertaining<br />

to geological, geophysical and archaeological investigations<br />

sent from G. S. I.; N. r. 0., Goa; Deccan College, Punc, and<br />

other Institutions in the country. Dredge corc samples<br />

collected by R. V. Gaveshani in a collaborative work with<br />

the G. S. 1. and X 1. O. have been dated. The samples <strong>of</strong><br />

coral reef formations along Minicay Island coasts have also<br />

been dated.<br />

6.2. Fission track dating progranune<br />

The equipments for sample mounting, grinding and<br />

polishing have been set up. Etching and counting <strong>of</strong> track<br />

have been standardized, using apatite crystals as specimens.<br />

Thus the preliminary work on the fission track dating method<br />

has been started.<br />
