Hence Peter's admonition to his readers to pay close attention to the prophetic writings of pre-Christian centuries . 2 Peter 1 :19- 21 and 3 :15,16, NW Just because some were twisting the Scriptures, Peter did not ban or condemn reading of the Bible . 12 The apostle Paul, too, writes of the precedence of the Bible over Christianity and of the benefits that Christians receive from studying it rather than religious traditions of false shepherds . He quotes the pre-Christian Psalms when he writes : "Just as it is written : The reproaches of those who were reproaching you have fallen upon me .' For all the things that were written aforetime were written for our instruction, that through our endurance and through the comfort from the Scriptures we might have hope ." Romans 15 :3,4, NW Do you want light, comfort and hope? Then read those inspired ancient writings. Do you want to be wise for gaining salvation? Then read and heed those Scriptures . Paul's words to the young man Timothy are for your information and assurance : "From infancy you have known the holy writings which are able to make you wise for salvation through the faith in connection with Christ Jesus . All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God 12 . How did Paul write showing the Bible's precedence?

"When you read the Bible, prove the pre- Christian Hebrew writings by the fulfilled facts and inspired interpretations in the Christian Greek Scriptures. In turn, find your support for these latter inspired Scriptures by searching the former, and prove the harmony of the entire Bible as the One Book of the One infallible Author, Jehovah God . As you read and search the Scriptures, be honest and open to conviction by them . Do not be like the Jews who had the Hebrew Bible and to whom Jesus said : "You are searching the Scriptures, because you think that by means of them you will have everlasting life ; and these are the very ones that bear witness about me. And yet you do not want to come to me that you may have life . In fact, if you believed Moses you would believe me, for that one wrote about me. But if you do not believe the writings of that one, how will you believe my sayings?" He added : "The sayings that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life ."-John 5 :39,40,46,47 and 6 :63, NW . 14 The Bible is the book of life-giving knowledge. By it we gain knowledge of the true God and of Jesus Christ whom he sent, and our knowing them is required for everlasting life . The Bible is the Word of truth that proceeds out of God's mouth . Feed upon it with heart and mind, and grasp the life that really is life . 13 . How should we handle the Bible, unlike those men Jesus exposed? 14 . What essential for life should we gain from the Bible? How?
