74 "THIS MEANS EVERLASTING LIFE"<br />

of Job and of Psalms 90 and 91 is attributed to<br />

him. Malachi, the last book of the Hebrew canon,<br />

refers us back to the first part of the Bible as<br />

authentic and inspired, saying : "Remember ye<br />

the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded<br />

unto him in Horeb for all Israel, even statutes and<br />

ordinances."-Malachi 4 :4, ASV.<br />

5 Did Jesus read the Bible? The word "Bible"<br />

is drawn from the Greek word bi .bli'a, which<br />

means "little books" . Jesus had all thirty-nine inspired<br />

books of the Hebrew Scriptures available<br />

in either the original tongue or the Greek Septuagint<br />

translation. Being the Son of David and<br />

Heir of the Kingdom covenant to whom God's instructions<br />

for anointed kings at Deuteronomy<br />

17 :14-20 applied, he read those Scriptures privately<br />

and publicly. "He came to Nazareth, where<br />

he had been reared, and according to his custom<br />

on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue,<br />

and he stood up to read aloud . So the scroll of<br />

the prophet Isaiah was handed him, and he opened<br />

the scroll and found the place where it was written,<br />

Jehovah's spirit is upon me, because he<br />

anointed me to declare good news to the poor,<br />

. . . to preach Jehovah's acceptable year .' With<br />

that he rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the<br />

attendant and sat down ." Then he said : "Today<br />

this scripture that you just heard is fulfilled ."<br />
