Jehovah, that Satan also came among them ."
Next showing that Satan was not confined to an
underground hell of torment, the inspired record
says: "And Jehovah said unto Satan, Whence
comest thou? Then Satan answered Jehovah, and
said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from
walking up and down in it . And Jehovah said
unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant
Job? for there is none like him in the earth, a
perfect and upright man, one that feareth God,
and turneth away from evil ." Then Satan, mindful
of his success in Eden, challenged God to let
him tempt Job to rebel against God and thus show
that this man had been serving God only for selfish
motives .
3 Although Satan reduced Job to a childless,
poverty-stricken state, he failed to make Job rebel
against God's universal sovereignty and curse
Him in renunciation . Still Satan was not cast out
of heaven ; he made another appearance before
God for larger powers respecting Job . Unwilling
to admit defeat, "Satan answered Jehovah, and
said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will
he give for his life . But put forth thy hand now,
and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will renounce
thee to thy face . And Jehovah said unto
Satan, Behold, he is in thy hand ; only spare his
life." Job 1 :1 to 2 :6, ASV This restriction on
Satan proves he had the power of death toward
mankind. He had just caused the death of Job's
ten children . He had long before induced Adam's
son Cain to put his younger brother Abel to death .
