Deuteronomy 6 :4-7, ASV Parents must teach and
demonstrate to their children this first and greatest
commandment. From waking up till lying down
to rest, and in all the relations of family life, they
were to think of the lasting good of their offspring
and strive to increase their knowledge and
love of the Creator, whom to know means everlasting
life. The duty was not to be left to a rabbi
or Sabbath-school teacher or a religious school,
but parents themselves must be every-day teachers
and day-long instructors of their offspring in
the things of God.
