It is in this capacity of Jehovah's Executioner
to destroy his rebellious enemies that the King
Jesus Christ comes like a thief . Wedging his warning
in between a description of the preparations
for the universal war of Armageddon which follow
Satan's ousting from heaven, Jesus said : "They
go forth to the kings of the entire inhabited earth,
to gather them together to the war of the great
day of God the Almighty. Look! I am coming as
a thief. Happy is the one that stays awake . . .

consummation of this system of things comes like
a thief for its suddenness at an unknown, unexpected
hour and in the night when the world is
carousing wildly and self-reliantly in scoffing defiance
of God . Jesus compared its coming with the
unbelieved, sudden coming of the global flood in
the time of Noah's presence .
