those crippling initial pangs of distress, but the
doomed condition of the whole world grows worse .

Who is responsible for all these pangs of distress
from which the world writhes more and
more in fear and agony? Do not let us be misled
by religious clergymen who claim that God is responsible
in that he is punishing the people for
forsaking the religious systems of Christendom
and turning to godless "isms" . Just because he
fixed the end of the times of the nations at 1914
and appointed the world's time of the end to start
there, that does not make him responsible for
the distress which Jesus foretold . God's revealed
Word uncovers the guilty troublemaker and bares
the reason for his outrageous treatment of human
society. Wars, famines, pestilences and earthquakes
have afflicted the earth before, but the
times of the nations had not then ended . Nor
were those disasters foretold in particular and
neither were they accompanied by the overshadowing
events in heaven that occurred from 1914
forward. So the meaning of world distress that
began with A.D. 1914 is certain . We are in the
"time of the end", the consummation of this system
of things, and Satan the Devil is responsible
for the mounting woes that pain the people .
The beginning of the "appointed times of the
nations" in 607 B .C. was marked by the overturning
of the typical kingdom of God, whose king sat
