nor, Pontius Pilate : "For this purpose I have come
into the world, that I should bear witness to the
truth . Everyone that is on the side of the truth
listens to my voice ." To Pilate's question, "What
is truth?" the answer could have been made that
it was the already written Hebrew Scriptures and
the message from God which Jesus gave to his
disciples . By the power of this truth God sanctifies
those who accept and adhere to it . That is, he
separates them from this unholy world and sets
them apart to his sacred service . By adherence to
divine truth Jesus sanctified himself . That was
why he never became a part of this world . He was
sending his disciples into the world on divine service,
but they, too, would never become a part of
it because their adherence to the truth would sanctify
them and hold them away from it . In the
world they must declare this sanctifying word of
truth, that others might believe . Hence Jesus with
loving foresight prays for such believers also :

"I make request, not concerning these only,
but also concerning those putting faith in me
through their word, in order that they may all be
one, just as you, Father, are in union with me and
I am in union with you, that they also may be in
union with us, in order that the world may believe
that you sent me forth. Also I have given
them the glory which you have given me, in order
that they may be one just as we are one . I in union
