number of overseers, a local congregation could
have a number of ministerial servants, or assistants
. In assigning seven men to look after certain
material needs of the local flock, the congregation
at Jerusalem indicated their choice of seven, bu
the apostles did the final appointing of the recommended
men to service : "They placed them before
the apostles, and after having prayed these laid
their hands upon them ."-Acts 6 :2-6, NW.
