104 "THIS MEANS EVERLASTING LIFE"<br />

lower animals, but offered himself, because he<br />

was a perfect human, with right to everlasting<br />

life as a man. By his baptism in water at John's<br />

hands Jesus symbolized his dedication to do God's<br />

will in behalf of a new covenant and the rest of<br />

God's purpose . At that time of coming to baptism<br />

he fulfilled prophecy as follows :<br />

4 "Hence when he comes into the world he says<br />

"You did not desire sacrifice and offering, but<br />

you prepared a body for me . You did not approve<br />

of whole burnt-offerings and sin offering." Then<br />

I said, "Look! I am come in the roll of the book<br />

it is written about me to do your will, 0 God ."'<br />

After first saying, You did not desire nor did you<br />

approve of sacrifices and offerings and whole<br />

burnt-offerings and sin offering'-sacrifices which<br />

are offered according to the Law-then he actually<br />

says, Look! I am come to do your will .' He does<br />

away with what is first that he may establish<br />

what is second. By the said will' we have been<br />

sanctified through the offering of the body of<br />

Jesus Christ once for all time."-Hebrews 10 :5-<br />

5 Moses and the other Israelites down in Egypt<br />

offered a literal passover lamb without power to<br />

remove human sins . But Jesus, in offering himself,<br />

died as "the Lamb of God that takes away<br />

the sin of the world" . John 1 :29, NW The new<br />

covenant rested thus upon a better sacrifice . Because<br />

it was written about him in the "roll of the<br />

book", the pre-Christian Hebrew Scriptures, Je-<br />
