Radiology Department Now Open!
A Family Health Centers of San Diego Radiologic Technologist
reviews x-rays at City Heights Family Health Center.
Patients needing x-rays or
mammography will now stay in
the Family Health Centers of San
Diego (FHCSD) network of care
with the grand opening of our new
Radiology Department at City
Heights Family Health Center.
Opened April 1, 2013, the new department provides x-rays, mammography
and ultrasound.
Previously, patients requiring such services were referred to outside resources or
hospitals. With the new equipment and the hiring of Radiologic Technologist, Shannon
Guimont, FHCSD is better positioned to ensure our patients receive the affordable,
high quality care they need.
The new Radiology Department was made possible with a competitive Affordable Care
Act grant for construction and equipment from the Health Resources & Services
Administration. Sharp Healthcare’s radiology team provided significant support
and professional expertise to help develop this new service. Additional thanks goes to
Clear Image Devices who donated a radiology panel protector.
Patients of Family Health Centers of San Diego in need of radiology services may obtain
a referral from their primary care provider.
Black Infant Health
Celebrates 20 Years
The Black Infant Health Program (BIH)
celebrated its 20th Anniversary at the Prado
in Balboa Park on May 22. BIH, operated by
Family Health Centers of San Diego since
2007, works to overcome disproportionate
infant mortality rates among African American
babies. Compared to Caucasian babies, African
American babies are more than twice as likely
to die in their first year of life.
BIH provides a program of empowerment,
education, wellness and connection to key
medical, social, economic and mental health
services. The program is client-centered and
set health-promoting goals for themselves
and their babies.
The celebration brought together participants,
staff, supporters and community partners
from past and present to celebrate program
successes and share memories. Guests were
Logan Grand Prix
treated to a photo exhibition highlighting the
lives of program participants by Mike Norris
and Shellanee Brock. In addition to being a
professional photographer, Brock is also a past
program participant. Family Health Centers of San
Diego thanks the California Department
of Public Health and the County of San
Diego who fund and support this program.
FHCSD’s Logan Heights Family Health Center, in collaboration with
the San Diego Bicycle Club, held the 17th Annual Barrio Logan Grand
Prix and Health Fair on May 4. Kids from all over San Diego raced
at Perkins Elementary School and more than 300 free helmets were
given out to the young cyclists. Cholesterol, diabetes, vision and dental
