Use<br />

programs, each <strong>of</strong> which has different requirements for a student information system.<br />

For example the BIA funds <strong>of</strong>f-reservation dormitories where students live in a<br />

dormitory environment, but attend a public school during the day. The dorms may<br />

operate on a five or seven day calendar, and have a need to take attendance at differing<br />

predefined hours. The BIA also funds boarding schools that have both residential and<br />

academic programs. The academic programs may run on a five day schedule, the<br />

dormitories may run on either five, six or seven day schedules and may take<br />

attendance at differing times and schedules. The system needs to identify students by<br />

both enrollment in residential and academic programs and to take attendance<br />

separately.<br />

<strong>NASIS</strong> will have a data warehouse for student and school information and provide<br />

analytical tools, including OLAP, to Central Office staff to perform multidimensional<br />

analyses.<br />

• Send reports from <strong>NASIS</strong> or through the creation <strong>of</strong> data files that can be<br />

stored on media<br />

Input and access to school level data, and functions by school based on authorized<br />

accesses and permissions. School users will only be able to access their school data.<br />

Example: teachers would see grades <strong>of</strong> own students, input attendance for own<br />

students; Administrator would have complete access at a school, etc. Below are<br />

example functions. Others are described in this document.<br />

• Student demographic information<br />

• Schedules, classes, grades<br />

• Discipline information<br />

• Health information<br />

• Special programs information (bilingual. Exceptional child, sports, clubs etc.)<br />

• Residential and day attendance<br />

• State assessment results<br />

• Local assessment results<br />

• Reports on all combinations <strong>of</strong> data<br />

Management • View and/or create reports for individual schools and groups <strong>of</strong> schools<br />

(excludes individual identifying information)<br />

• View dashboards<br />

Education Line<br />

Offices/Officers<br />

Education Line Offices/Officers will be able to view summary reports for schools<br />

assigned schools, but will not be able to view information that is attributable to a<br />

specific student. View/retrieval access for all data for all schools in that organizational<br />

unit. Reports on schools in combinations <strong>of</strong> data points in a specific school or by<br />

comparison amongst schools within the agency will be available.<br />
