THEATRE ARTS<br />

TA 115.4 STAGECRAFT<br />

Units: 4.0 – 192 - 216 hours laboratory. CSU, UC. (No<br />

prerequisite). This course may be taken four times.<br />

An introductory course on the materials, tools and<br />

procedures of theatre set production including<br />

construction, painting, rigging, placement and<br />

manipulation of stage scenery, the organization and<br />

management of set pieces, and stagecraft terminology.<br />

Students are introduced to the fundamentals of set<br />

design, construction, painting and finishing.<br />

TA 116 AUTHORS OF THE THEATRE<br />

Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. CSU, UC. (No<br />

prerequisite)<br />

A survey of playwrights from the Greeks to the present.<br />

The selected plays are read, discussed, and analyzed. It<br />

is both AA and BA applicable. See cross listing for<br />

TA 117 TECHNICAL THEATRE: LIGHTING AND<br />

SOUND<br />

Units: 3.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU, UC. (No prerequisite)<br />

A basic course in theatre lighting and sound systems<br />

including electrical theory, instruments and lamps, light<br />

and sound plots, sound recording, microphones,<br />

speakers, etc. Emphasis is on hands-on control and<br />

adjustment of the equipment.<br />

TA 120 COSTUMING FOR THE THEATRE<br />

Units: 2.0 - 16-18 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU, UC (No prerequisite) This course may<br />

be taken four times.<br />

A basic course in the skills of costuming for the stage<br />

and the art of costume design. Repetitions of the course<br />

will introduce creation of specialty items, stylistic<br />

interpretations, crew management and organization<br />

responsibilities.<br />

Development of basic knowledge and skill in tap<br />

dancing, commonly used in musical productions and<br />

TA 161 TAP II<br />

Units: 1.0 - 48-54 hours laboratory. CSU, UC. Student<br />

may be required to audition and be approved by<br />

instructor for entrance to class. (Grade option) This<br />

course may be taken four times.<br />

Development of intermediate knowledge of skill in tap<br />

dancing, commonly used in musical productions and<br />

TA 166 BALLET I<br />

Units: 1.0 - 48-54 hours laboratory. CSU, UC (No<br />

prerequisite. Grade option) This course may be taken<br />

four times.<br />

Technique and style of beginning ballet dance.<br />

Emphasis on exploring the movement characteristics of<br />
