PROGRAMS / COURSE DESCRIPTION<br />

TA 109 REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE STUDIO<br />

Units: 2.0 - 16-18 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU, UC. (Prerequisite: Qualify for cast at<br />

open auditions. TA 106 recommended) This course may<br />

be taken four times.<br />

This course will provide study and laboratory exploration<br />

in all aspects of play production involving the actor in<br />

order to develop his/her acting capabilities, skills, and<br />

discipline. The audition, preparation, and presentational<br />

phases of the acting process will be explored under the<br />

supervision and guidance of a faculty director.<br />

Productions will be presented for public performance.<br />

Enrollment is for the duration of the preparation and<br />

presentation phases of production. May be repeated<br />

four times for a maximum of twelve units.<br />

TA 110 PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN FOR THEATRE<br />

Units: 3.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU, UC. (No prerequisite.) This course<br />

may be taken two times.<br />

An introductory course in design principles as applied to<br />

the theatre in the areas of lighting, costuming, makeup,<br />

and set design. Students will apply concepts of texture,<br />

line, space, color and perspective to the various design<br />

aspects in theatre through specific 2-D and 3-D<br />

exercises.<br />

TA 111 TECHNICAL STAGE PRODUCTION<br />

Units: 3.0 - 16-18 hours lecture and 96-108 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU, UC. (No prerequisite.) This course<br />

may be taken four times.<br />

This course is an introduction to the tasks,<br />

responsibilities, and skills of stage technicians. Stage<br />

managing, construction techniques, stage equipment<br />

use, and function of technical stage personnel are<br />

introduced to develop the student’s design capabilities,<br />

skills, and discipline in stage production. Students will<br />

serve as technical stage crew members in Theatre Arts<br />

Department productions.<br />

TA 113 STAGE MAKE-UP<br />

Units: 3.0 - 16-18 hours lecture and 96-108 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU. (No prerequisite) This course may be<br />

taken three times.<br />

A course designed to introduce the student to the basic<br />

techniques and materials of stage make-up. The student<br />

will demonstrate understanding through actual make-up,<br />

wig, and facial hair applications in the classroom.<br />

TA 114 PLAY WRITING<br />

Units: 3.0 – 48-54 hours lecture. CSU. (No prerequisite)<br />

This is a practical writing, analysis and critique course<br />

designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of<br />

play writing while teaching them to constructively<br />

critique their own writing. Lecture topics include<br />

dramatic structure, dramatic action, the relationship<br />

between dialogue and action, characterization, setting,<br />

time & locale, theme, and point of view.<br />

TA 115 STAGECRAFT<br />

Units: 2.0-4.0 - 16-18 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory per unit per term. CSU, UC. (No prerequisite)<br />

An introductory course on the materials, tools, and<br />

procedures of all technical phases of scene production<br />

including construction, painting, rigging, placement and<br />

manipulation of stage scenery, the organization and<br />

management of stage activity, and stagecraft<br />

terminology. Students are introduced to the<br />

fundamentals of set design, construction, painting, and<br />

finishing. Course is designed for the beginner and may<br />

be repeated four times for a maximum of 16 units.<br />

TA 115.1 STAGECRAFT<br />

Units: 1.0 - 48-54 hours laboratory. CSU, UC. (No<br />

prerequisite). This course may be taken four times.<br />

An introductory course on the materials, tools and<br />
