SPAN 110 SPANISH FOR SPANISH SPEAKERS<br />

Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. CSU (No prerequisite.<br />

Recommended: Ability to speak Spanish.)<br />

Designed to fulfill the particular needs of bilingual<br />

students with special emphasis on the grammar of the<br />

language and the development of writing, reading and<br />

speaking skills. Conducted in Spanish.<br />

SPAN 125 CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH I<br />

Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. CSU. (No prerequisite.<br />

Grade Option)<br />

This is the first of two courses covering the essentials of<br />

Spanish conversation. It is a basic introductory course<br />

which emphasizes oral practice, pronunciation and<br />

vocabulary development. It is designed to develop a<br />

speaking and understanding knowledge of Spanish for<br />

use in everyday conversational situations. This course<br />

is designed for non-native speakers of the language.<br />

SPAN 126 CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH II<br />

Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. (Prerequisite: SPAN<br />

125 or the ability to speak Spanish with a level of<br />

fluency equivalent to completion of SPAN 125. Grade<br />

Option.)<br />

This is the second of two courses designed to increase<br />

listening comprehension and speech skills in everyday<br />

conversational situations in Spanish. Course designed<br />

for non-native speakers of the language. This course is<br />

an introduction to more complex Spanish structures and<br />

grammar with emphasis on the spoken language. CSU.<br />

SPAN 130 CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH FOR<br />

HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS I<br />

Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. CSU. (No prerequisite)<br />

This course is directed towards the needs of nursing<br />

and healthcare students, as well as other medical and<br />

hospital personnel, who must communicate quickly and<br />

effectively with Spanish-speaking patients. Conducted<br />

in Spanish and English.<br />

This course is a continuation of SPAN 130. It provides<br />

intermediate conversational skills for nursing and healthcare<br />

students as well as other medical and hospital<br />

personnel who must communicate quickly and<br />

effectively with Spanish-speaking patients. Conducted<br />

in Spanish and English.<br />

SPAN 135 SPANISH FOR BUSINESS<br />

Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. CSU. (No prerequisite)<br />

This course is designed to give students a foundation in<br />

Spanish business terminology and prepare them with<br />

the knowledge necessary to function in business and<br />

professional settings in Spanish speaking countries and<br />

where Spanish is used in the U.S. Emphasis will be<br />

placed on acquiring basic communication skills and<br />

specialized vocabulary for topics related to business<br />

and finance. Course is conducted mainly in Spanish.<br />

SPECIAL TOPICS COURSES<br />

SPECIAL TOPICS 98-128-148<br />

Units: 0.5-9.0 - (Prerequisites for Special Topics<br />

courses will be in keeping with the California<br />

Administrative Code, Title V regulations on open<br />

classes, and any prerequisites will be based on terms of<br />

performance or specific knowledge necessary to<br />

successful performance in the class).<br />

These courses are designed to permit investigation in<br />

depth of topics not covered by regular catalog offerings.<br />

Course content, hours, and unit credit to be determined<br />

by the instructor in relation to community/student<br />

interest and/or available staff. May be offered as a<br />

seminar, lecture, or laboratory class. Individual course<br />

descriptions approved by the Curriculum Committee are<br />

on file in Office of Instruction. Special Topics 128 and<br />

148 transfer to CSU, UC. (UC maximum credit allowed:<br />

3.3 semester units per term, 6 units total, in any or all<br />

appropriate subject areas combined. Granting of credit<br />

by a UC campus contingent on evaluation of course<br />
