for Elective credit, but may not be used to fulfill major<br />

SOCIOLOGY COURSES<br />

SOC 50 SOCIOLOGY OF PARENTING<br />

Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. (No prerequisite)<br />

This course provides an introduction to the challenges,<br />

risks and changes caused by parenthood, the impact of<br />

parenting styles on the development of children, the<br />

effect of socio-cultural roles in parenting, and the<br />

dynamics of adult/child relationships. It further provides<br />

strategies, skills and resources to promote healthy<br />

family living.<br />

This course is a survey of the various characteristics of<br />

social life, the process of social interaction and the tools<br />

of sociological investigation. Emphasis is on culture,<br />

socialization, and basic institutions.<br />

SOC 102 AMERICAN SOCIAL PROBLEMS<br />

Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. CSU, UC. (No<br />

prerequisite)<br />

This one semester survey course will focus on<br />

identification of major sociological theories, concepts,<br />

and perspectives in an analytical approach to the study<br />

of social problems in contemporary American society.<br />

SOC 103 MARRIAGE AND FAMILY LIFE<br />

Units: 3.0 -48-54 hours lecture. CSU. (No prerequisite)<br />

This course is a survey of analytical and theoretical<br />

concepts involved in the sociological study of courtship,<br />

marriage and family in American society.<br />

SOC 107 THE ETHNIC EXPERIENCE IN AMERICAN<br />

SOCIETY<br />

Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. CSU, UC. (No<br />

prerequisite.)<br />

This is a one semester sociological survey of major<br />

racial/ethnic groups in American society. This course<br />

will focus on historical experiences and their relationship<br />

to contemporary social realities faced by these<br />

racial/ethnic groups in American society. It will also<br />

investigate their contributions and special experiences<br />

as minorities.<br />
