PROGRAMS / COURSE DESCRIPTION<br />

Individualized fitness program designed for those with<br />

limitations. An individualized fitness program designed<br />

to maintain or increase current fitness level. Activities<br />

include postural skills, elements of fitness, relaxation<br />

and body concepts. Repetition of the course enhances<br />

or maintains current movement of fitness level.<br />

APE 166 ADAPTED CARDIOVASCULAR TRAINING<br />

Units: 1.0 - 48-54 hours laboratory. CSU (No<br />

prerequisite. Grade Option) This course may be taken<br />

four times.<br />

This course is designed to meet the needs of students<br />

with disabilities who require restricted or modified<br />

activities. Individualized cardiovascular exercise<br />

programs will be performed by students with instruction<br />

covering the elements of physical fitness. Emphasis will<br />

be placed on cardiovascular training principles and<br />

techniques.<br />

APE 167 ADAPTED WEIGHT TRAINING<br />

Units: 1.0 - 48-54 hours laboratory. CSU (No<br />

prerequisite. Grade Option) This course may be taken<br />

four times.<br />

This course is designed to meet the needs of students<br />

with disabilities who require restricted or modified<br />

activities. Individualized exercise programs will be<br />

performed by students with instruction covering the<br />

elements of physical fitness through weight training.<br />

Emphasis will be placed on principles and techniques.<br />

APE 169 ADAPTED CARDIAC REHABILITATION<br />

Units: 1.0 - 48-54 hours laboratory. CSU (No<br />

prerequisite. Grade Option) This course may be taken<br />

four times.<br />

This course is designed to meet the needs of students<br />

with disabilities/special needs who require restricted or<br />

modified activities pertaining to the heart. Individualized<br />

exercise programs for cardiac rehab students will be<br />

performed with instruction covering the elements of<br />

cardiovascular fitness. Emphasis will be placed on the<br />

special needs of this population.<br />

APE 183 ADAPTED WALKING FOR FUN FITNESS<br />

Units: 1.0 - 48-54 hours laboratory. CSU (No<br />

prerequisite. Grade Option) This course may be taken<br />

four times.<br />

This course is designed to meet the needs of students<br />

who require restricted or modified activities.<br />

Individualized cardiovascular exercise programs will be<br />

performed by students with instruction covering the<br />

elements of physical fitness. Emphasis will be placed on<br />

cardiovascular training principles and techniques<br />

through walking.<br />

APE 185 ADAPTED SPORTS AND GAMES<br />

Units: 1.0 - 48-54 hours laboratory. CSU (No<br />

prerequisite. Grade Option) This course may be taken<br />

four times.<br />

The adapted sports and games course is designed to<br />

develop students gross motor skills and to facilitate their<br />

participation in life-long activities enhancing improved<br />

fitness, self-esteem, and social interaction. Activities<br />

include but are not limited to bowling, softball, and<br />

frisbee. Fitness, rules, and sportsmanship will also be<br />

discussed.<br />

PHYSICAL SCIENCES<br />

General Physical Sciences includes a number of<br />

scientific courses which often encompass a number of<br />

related disciplines. They are intended to serve as<br />

introductory level general education courses while also<br />

providing a basis for future, more advanced study in<br />

each of their respective fields.<br />

degree requirements for this major. PSCI 138<br />

(Cooperative Education) may be used for Elective<br />

credit, but may not be used to fulfill major requirements.<br />
