PROGRAMS / COURSE DESCRIPTION<br />

PHYSICAL EDUCATION<br />

spring sports programs at VVC (baseball, basketball,<br />

football, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball,<br />

track/field and wrestling). Experience will include, but is<br />

not limited to, prophylactic taping and padding,<br />

immediate first aid, monitoring vital signs, completion of<br />

accident forms, proper use of universal biohazard<br />

precautions, supervision of safe playing conditions and<br />

coaching techniques, recognition of medical<br />

emergencies, assisting other medical personnel as<br />

needed, game preparation and pre-participation medical<br />

PE 177 ATHLETIC TRAINING IV<br />

(Formerly PE 77)<br />

Units: 2.0-6.0 - 108-324 hours laboratory. CSU, UC.<br />

(Recommendation Preparation: PE 141 or ALDH 141,<br />

Athletic Training I, or equivalent.) This course may be<br />

taken four times.<br />

In this course, students will provide the care to athletes<br />

involved in fall/winter/spring sports programs at VVC<br />

(baseball, basketball, football, golf, soccer, softball,<br />

tennis, volleyball, track/field and wrestling). Experience<br />

will include but is not limited to development and<br />

implementation of rehabilitation protocols. Use of<br />

modalities including, whirlpool, ultrasound, ice,<br />

Emergency Medical Services, hydrocolator packs,<br />

Range of Motion exercises, joint mobilization,<br />

strengthening exercises (isokinetic, isotonic, isometric),<br />

cardiovascular conditioning and proprioceptive<br />

PE 180 TENNIS<br />

Units: 1.0 - 48-54 hours laboratory. CSU, UC (UC credit<br />

limitation). (No prerequisite. Grade option) This course<br />

may be taken four times.<br />

The course offers logical sequences of learning<br />

experiences that include: basic tennis strokes; rules that<br />

govern play; understanding of game strategies;<br />

individual practice drills, and learning the equipment and<br />

safety involved.<br />

PE 181 GOLF<br />

Units: 1.0 - 48-54 hours laboratory. CSU, UC (UC<br />

credit limitation). (No prerequisite. Grade option) This<br />

course may be taken four times.<br />

Covers the use and skill development of equipment<br />

including woods, irons and putters. Includes the reading<br />

of greens, distance and selection of clubs, etiquette and<br />

rules of golf.<br />

PE 185 FOOTBALL TECHNIQUES AND<br />

CONDITIONING<br />

Units: 2.0 - 96-108 hours laboratory. CSU, UC (UC<br />

credit limitation). (No prerequisite. Grade option) This<br />

course may be taken four times.<br />

Course will include drills and exercises to develop the<br />

skills, techniques, and conditioning essential for<br />

participation in intercollegiate football.<br />

PE 190 YOGA<br />

Units: 1.0 - 48-54 hours laboratory. CSU. (No<br />

prerequisite. Grade Option.) This course may be taken<br />

four times.<br />

This course is an introduction to basic yoga practices<br />

and principles. Instruction includes classifications of<br />

yoga postures as well as guided relaxations and<br />

breathing practices. The benefits of yoga include<br />

increased flexibility, strength, balance, body awareness<br />

and stress reduction. This course is designed for<br />

students of all ages and fitness levels.<br />

PHYSICAL EDUCATION/DANCE COURSES<br />

PEDA 152 DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY I (formerly PE<br />

26A)<br />

Units: 3.0 – 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU, UC (No prerequisite. Grade option).<br />

This course is designed to introduce students to the<br />

basic elements of dance choreography. Choreography<br />

students will work in solo and small groups by using<br />

concepts of space, time, and energy to investigate and<br />

explore the basic elements of dance.<br />

PEDA 160 TAP I<br />

Units: 1.0 - 48-54 hours laboratory. CSU (No<br />

prerequisite. Grade Option) This course may be taken<br />

four times.<br />

Developing skill in tap dancing will be the focus. Skills<br />

learned will be a prerequisite to more advanced<br />

techniques and which can be used to advance to a<br />

PEDA 161 TAP II<br />

Units: 1.0 - 48-54 hours laboratory. CSU. Student may<br />

be required to audition and be approved by instructor for<br />

entrance to class. (Grade option) This course may be<br />

taken four times.<br />

Development of intermediate knowledge of skill in tap<br />

dancing, commonly used in musical productions and<br />

theater. See cross listing for TA 161.<br />

PEDA 162 BALLROOM DANCE I<br />

Units: 1.0 - 48-54 hours laboratory. CSU, UC (UC credit<br />

limitation.) (No prerequisite. Grade option) This course<br />

may be taken four times.<br />

Ballroom Dance I encompasses dance techniques,<br />

styles and rhythms of beginning level ballroom dance,<br />
