PHOTOGRAPHY • PHYSICAL EDUCATION<br />

This course will introduce the basics of Adobe<br />

PhotoShop and its application to digital photography<br />

utilizing the Macintosh and PC platforms.<br />

PHOT 53 BASIC PHOTOGRAPHIC LIGHTING<br />

TECHNIQUES<br />

Units: 3.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. (No prerequisite. PHOT 100 or equivalent<br />

recommended. Grade Option) This course may be<br />

taken four times.<br />

This course will introduce the student to the<br />

fundamentals of lighting and its application to imaging<br />

processes. A broad range of topics will be covered that<br />

include portraiture, product and commercial<br />

applications.<br />

PHOT 54 PORTFOLIO DESIGN<br />

Units: 2.0 - 24-27 hours lecture and 24-27 hours<br />

laboratory. (No prerequisite. PHOT 100 and PHOT 101<br />

recommended.) This course may be taken four times.<br />

This course will present visual problems for the student<br />

to solve for the purpose of creating a traditional and<br />

digital portfolio.<br />

PHOT 100 BEGINNING PHOTOGRAPHY<br />

Units: 3.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU,UC. (No prerequisite. Grade Option.)<br />

This course may be taken four times.<br />

This is a course that introduces the basics of black and<br />

white photography. Technical and conceptual topics will<br />

be covered. Students will furnish their own cameras with<br />

manual controls.<br />

PHOT 101 INTERMEDIATE PHOTOGRAPHY<br />

Units: 3.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU, UC. (No prerequisite. PHOT 100 is<br />

recommended. Grade Option) This course may be<br />

taken four times.<br />

This is an intermediate course designed to teach the<br />

student how to use film and digital cameras. Topics<br />

covered in this course will be intermediate techniques of<br />

photography such as an introduction to portraiture,<br />

lighting techniques, multiple light portrait photography,<br />

infrared techniques and the view camera. An<br />

introduction to Adobe Photoshop will also be covered.<br />

This course can be completed with film or digital<br />

cameras.<br />

PHOT 103 ALTERNATIVE IMAGING PROCESS<br />

Units: 3.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU. (No prerequisite. PHOT 100 or<br />

equivalent recommended. Grade Option) This course<br />

may be taken four times.<br />

This course will cover a variety of alternative photographic<br />

processes such as cyanotype, Van Dyke, handcoloring<br />

and toning using traditional techniques as well<br />

as computer generated images.<br />

PHOT 105 PORTRAITURE<br />

Units: 3.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU. (No prerequisite. PHOT 100 or<br />

equivalent recommended.) This course may be taken<br />

two times.<br />

This course will cover studio and outdoor portrait<br />

techniques as well as elements of commercial<br />

photography and may be completed with digital or film<br />

based cameras.<br />

PHOT 106 INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOJOURNALISM<br />

Units: 2.0 - 96-108 hours laboratory. CSU. (No<br />

prerequisite.) This course may be taken two times.<br />

This lab class is an introduction to the basics of<br />

photojournalism including basic photography skills,<br />

digital imaging, processing, composition, and production<br />

of written news stories. See cross-listing for JOUR 106.<br />

PHYSICAL EDUCATION<br />

Physical Education as an academic science emphasizes<br />

knowledge of the body through the study of<br />

kinesiology and exercise physiology. Physical Education<br />

also contributes to the intellectual, social, emotional,<br />

spiritual and physical growth and development of each<br />

student. Other areas of study in Physical Education<br />

include: nutrition, healthy lifestyles, stress management<br />

as well as psychological aspects of physical activity and<br />

injury care and prevention. Additional specialties within<br />

the discipline of Physical Education which are more fully<br />

addressed in the curriculum at <strong>Victor</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> <strong>College</strong> are<br />

Dance and Adapted Physical Education. A variety of<br />

activities are offered, encouraging students to develop<br />

lifelong fitness activities and patterns for recreation.<br />

Any of the Physical Education activity courses may be<br />

repeated up to three times, but not more than four units<br />

of physical education activity classes will be counted<br />

toward the Associate in Arts or Science Degrees.<br />

With the exception of the Adapted courses, all Physical<br />

Education activity classes are intended for normal,<br />

healthy, individuals. It is highly recommended that<br />

anyone 35 years or older have a physical checkup<br />
