BIOL 211, BIOL 231, BIOL 221, CHEM 100 OR<br />
H100, CHEM 206, 207, MATH 105 or H105 or<br />
MATH 132, CMST 109, ENGL 101, and one course<br />
from the following: PHIL 109, 207, RLST 207, ENGL<br />
104, H104<br />
4. Additional support courses: PSYC 110<br />
5. 3.0 GPA minimum<br />

NURSING COURSES<br />
NURS 49 KNOWLEDGE REVIEW FOR PRE-<br />
NURSING STUDENTS<br />
Units: 2.0 - 108 hours laboratory. (Prerequisite:<br />
Acceptance into VVC Nursing Program AND failure to<br />
achieve at least 62% score on the TEAS. Pass/No<br />
Pass.) This course may be taken two times.<br />
This course is designed to assist those who have<br />
completed the requirements to enter the nursing<br />
program but who have not achieved the minimum score<br />
on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) or have<br />
been on the waiting list long enough to need a review of<br />
scholastic subjects and study skills.<br />

An introduction to the <strong>Victor</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> <strong>College</strong> Associate<br />
Degree Nursing Program and the nursing profession.<br />
Emphasis is on the Nursing Process and fundamentals<br />
of nursing; including risk management, health<br />
promotion, psycho-social aspects, electrolyte and acidbase<br />
management, and the perioperative experience<br />
practiced in various clinical settings and the classroom<br />
laboratory.<br />
NURS 222 NURSING PROCESS 2<br />
Units: 9.0 - 64-72 hours lecture and 240-270 hours<br />
laboratory. CSU (Prerequisite: NURS 220 and NURS<br />
221 completed with a grade of ‘C’ or better.)<br />
The Nursing Process applied to family nursing and the<br />
childbearing family, the adaptations of nursing care for<br />
various stages of growth and development, and the<br />
nursing management required in common adult<br />
conditions; e.g., nutritional, tissue perfusion, elimination.<br />
NURS 223 NURSING PROCESS 3<br />
Units: 9.0 - 72 hours lecture and 270 hours laboratory.<br />
CSU (Prerequisite: NURS 222)<br />
The Nursing Process applied to critical care areas,<br />
psychiatric/mental health and complex geriatric care.<br />
Emphasis will be on client adaptation in chronic and<br />
acute illness.<br />
NURS 224 NURSING PROCESS 4<br />
Units: 9.0 - 72 hours lecture and 270 hours laboratory.<br />
CSU (Prerequisite: NURS 223)<br />
The Nursing Process applied with a holistic view to<br />
multi-system problems with a comprehensive approach<br />
in the hospital and community setting. Clinical<br />
experience demonstrates the use of legal, ethical, and<br />
leadership principles, and the ability to function with<br />
minimum supervision as a preceptor.<br />

NURS 220 PHARMACOLOGY AND NURSING<br />
MANAGEMENT<br />
Units: 2.0 - 32-36 hours lecture. CSU (Prerequisite:<br />
Admission to the Nursing Program as required by BRN.)<br />
This course is a nursing class about the study of drug<br />
therapy to prevent, diagnose, or cure disease processes<br />
or to relieve signs and symptoms of diseases. It<br />
includes content specific to the registered nurse and<br />
utilization of the nursing process to fulfill nursing<br />
responsibility in medication management of clients.<br />
NURS 221 NURSING PROCESS 1<br />
Units: 10.0 - 90 hours lecture and 270 hours laboratory.<br />
CSU. (Prerequisite: Anatomy, Physiology, and<br />
Microbiology completed with a grade of ‘C’ or better.<br />

NURS 225 LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSE (LVN)<br />
TO REGISTERED NURSE (RN) TRANSITION<br />
COURSE<br />
Units: 1.0 - 16-18 hours lecture. CSU. (Prerequisites:<br />
Current California Licensure as an LVN and Physiology<br />
and Microbiology [Mandated - State of California].)<br />
A transition course with emphasis on role development<br />
for the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) entering the<br />
VVC Registered Nurse (RN) program. Includes<br />
concepts of nursing process, Nursing Practice Act,<br />
critical thinking, problem solving, and skill proficiency.<br />
