Radiologic Technology<br />

The radiologic technologist (x-ray technician) is<br />

responsible for the accurate demonstration of body<br />

structures on a radiograph or other receptor. The<br />

technologist determines proper exposure factors,<br />

manipulates medical imaging equipment, evaluates the<br />

radiographic quality, and provides for patient protection<br />

and comfort.<br />

Most radiologic technology programs are two-year<br />

programs with students earning an associate degree<br />

upon completion of the program.<br />

Radiologic technologists may choose to train further in<br />

the areas of medical sonography, nuclear medicine<br />

technology, radiation therapy technology, and special<br />

imaging technology.<br />

Entrance requirements vary slightly from college to<br />

college. Students should send off for requirements for<br />

each college to which they plan to apply. Students are<br />

highly encouraged to complete the following courses<br />

before transfer into the below college/university:<br />

Chaffey <strong>College</strong><br />

A.S. Radiologic Technology<br />

ALDH 139 , BIOL 211, CHEM 100 or PHYS 100, ENGL<br />

101 and ENGL 102, MATH 90, PSY 101 or SOC 101,<br />

CMST 109, and CIS 101.<br />

(All courses must be completed with a grade of C or<br />

better).<br />

Loma Linda University<br />

A.S. Medical Radiography<br />

ALDH 139, BIOL 211, BIOL 231, CHEM 100 or PHYS<br />

100, ENGL 101 AND ENGL 102, MATH 90, PSYC 101<br />

or SOC 101, CMST 109, CIS 101 or High School<br />

Computer. Elective units to complete course<br />

requirements may be necessary. (All courses must be<br />

completed with a grade of C or better).<br />

A handout with all transfer requirements for an A.S.<br />

degree in Medical Radiography and a B.S. degree in<br />

Radiation Technology from Loma Linda University is<br />

available in counseling.<br />

Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology/<br />

Communicative Disorders<br />

Speech-language pathologists are concerned with<br />

evaluating and treating children and adults with<br />

communication disorders. Difficulties in the areas of<br />

speech, language, fluency, and voice are associated<br />

with a variety of disorders, including developmental<br />

delay, hearing impairment, cleft palate, cerebral palsy,<br />

stroke, and head injury. Audiologists are concerned with<br />

prevention, identification, assessment, and rehabilitation<br />

of hearing disorders. For both professions, it is<br />

important that the student have an interest in working<br />

with people.<br />

Sports Medicine<br />

The field of Sports Medicine deals with understanding<br />

the role of science in exercise and health promotion.<br />

Programs in Sports Medicine provide a sound<br />

knowledge of the scientific principles of maintaining,<br />

enhancing, and rehabilitating the body through the<br />

medium of exercise and sport.<br />

Only a few universities offer a major in Sports Medicine<br />

or even a Sports Medicine option within a physical<br />

education or health-related degree. To pursue a<br />

bachelor’s degree, specific courses should be<br />

completed prior to transfer. The average entrance GPA<br />

is usually above 3.0.<br />

Complete general education requirements of specific<br />
