GEOL 101 PHYSICAL GEOLOGY<br />
Units: 4.0 - 48-54 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />
laboratory. CSU, UC. (No prerequisite)<br />
A study of the factors and processes that have created<br />
and shaped the earth’s surface, the geologic structures<br />
that comprise it, and the minerals and rocks that form it.<br />
Field trips are scheduled to areas of representative local<br />
geology.<br />
GEOL 102 HISTORICAL GEOLOGY<br />
Units: 4.0 - 48-54 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />
laboratory. CSU, UC. (No prerequisite)<br />
A study of the chronological development of the surface<br />
of the earth and of the corresponding evolution of life. Of<br />
vital importance to the course is a thorough understanding<br />
of the concepts of geologic time, biological<br />
classification, and evolution. Emphasis is placed on<br />
historical development of North America.<br />
GEOL 103 GEOLOGY OF CALIFORNIA<br />
Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. CSU, UC. (No<br />
prerequisite)<br />
A survey of the physical and historical geology of the 12<br />
distinct geologic provinces of the state. Greatest<br />
emphasis is placed on the most important structural,<br />
scenic, and economic details of each region, and upon<br />
the provinces of Southern California.<br />
GEOL 109 GEOLOGY OF THE WESTERN NATIONAL<br />
PARKS<br />
Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. CSU. (No prerequisite)<br />
A survey course describing the geological features of<br />
the national parks and monuments of the Western<br />
United States, illustrating why these areas serve as<br />
important preserves of such features.<br />

designed to assist students in becoming goal directed<br />
and successful.<br />
Students needing help in identifying career and<br />
educational goals or help in applying successful learning<br />
and studying techniques are encouraged to sign up for<br />
these classes.<br />
GUIDANCE COURSES<br />
GUID 10 SUPPORT CLASS FOR LEARNING<br />
DISABLED STUDENTS<br />
Units: 1.0 - 16-18 hours lecture. This course will not<br />
apply to the Associate Degree. (No prerequisite.<br />
Pass/No Pass)<br />
Designed as a support class for students with<br />
diagnosed learning disabilities. Techniques for handling<br />
the social and emotional aspects of learning disabilities<br />
will be discussed.<br />
GUID 50 COLLEGE SUCCESS<br />
Units: 1.0 - 16-18 hours lecture. (No prerequisite. Grade<br />
Option)<br />
This survey course is designed to introduce personal<br />
management and study techniques that are commonly<br />
applied among successful college students, with an<br />
emphasis on concepts such as the learning process,<br />
time management, note taking, efficient textbook<br />
reading, memory development and effective test-taking.<br />
It also serves as an orientation to college procedures<br />
and available campus resources.<br />
GUID 51 ORIENTATION TO COLLEGE<br />
Units: 0.5 - 8-9 hours lecture. (No prerequisite. Grade<br />
Option.)<br />
This class is designed to provide students with a wellrounded<br />
knowledge and orientation to the policies,<br />
procedures, and academic and support services<br />
available at <strong>Victor</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Students will develop<br />
an educational plan relevant to their educational/career<br />
goals. It will introduce and help students understand<br />
major and general education, certificate, AA, and<br />
transfer requirements; identify the four-year college<br />
system (CSU, UC, and private); understand the financial<br />
aid process, and will allow students to develop and<br />
identify academic/career goals.<br />
