PROGRAMS / COURSE DESCRIPTION<br />

FIRE 8C EMT-ID, DEFIBRILLATION<br />

Units: 0.5 - 8-9 hours lecture. This course will not apply<br />

to the Associate Degree. (Prerequisites: possess a<br />

current Basic Care Life Support (BCLS) card, possess<br />

certification as an EMT 1, and be currently employed<br />

with an approved EMT I D provider. State mandated.<br />

Pass/No Pass)<br />

This course will provide the Emergency Medical<br />

Technician (EMT 1) training in the skill of defibrillation<br />

(D). Course content is based on California State<br />

Department of Health requirements, as delineated in<br />

title 22 of the California Administrative Code, Division 9,<br />

Chapter 2, Section 10064.<br />

FIRE 9 FIRE CONTROL III, STRUCTURAL FIRE<br />

FIGHTING, INSTRUCTOR<br />

Units: 2.0 - 32-36 hours lecture. This course will not<br />

apply to the Associate Degree. (No prerequisite.<br />

Pass/No Pass)<br />

This 32-hour course prepares the fire fighter student to<br />

manage and conduct a state certified Fire Control III<br />

training exercise. Designed for fire department training<br />

officers and training staff, this course assumes a basic<br />

knowledge of firefighting skills and organizational<br />

concepts.<br />

FIRE 9A FIRE CONTROL IV, OIL AND GAS FIRE<br />

FIGHTING TECHNIQUES<br />

Units: 0.5 - 8-9 hours lecture. This course will not apply<br />

to the Associate Degree. (No prerequisite. Pass/No<br />

Pass)<br />

This course provides the fire fighter student with live fire<br />

situations to gain skills and experience in combating<br />

fires involving liquefied petroleum gas and flammable<br />

liquids. Subjects include flammable liquid fire behavior,<br />

safety on the fire ground, extinguishing agents,<br />

flammable liquid/gas transportation vehicles, water-flow<br />

requirements and actual fire extinguishing exercises. A<br />

basic knowledge of firefighting skills and knowledge plus<br />

access to appropriate safety equipment and clothing is<br />

presumed.<br />

FIRE 10 FIRE FIGHTER SKILLS MAINTENANCE<br />

Units: 4.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 96-108 hours<br />

laboratory. This course will not apply to the Associate<br />

Degree. (Prerequisite: FIRE 100 and FIRE 90 or FIRE<br />

95 or equivalent. Employment as career fire fighter or<br />

paid call fire fighter recommended)<br />

A series of lectures and manipulative drills designed to<br />

provide maintenance of skills learned, including updates<br />

in technology relating to fire department organization,<br />

hoses, ladders, tools and equipment, salvage, fire<br />

chemistry, extinguishers and agents, fire control,<br />

prevention, arson, crowd and traffic control, mutual aid,<br />

communications, fire safety and emergency rescue<br />

techniques.<br />

FIRE 10A SKILLS MAINTENANCE FOR PAID CALL<br />

FIRE FIGHTER<br />

Units: 1.5 - 16-18 hours lecture and 32-36 hours<br />

laboratory. This course will not apply to the Associate<br />

Degree. (No prerequisite)<br />

A series of lectures and manipulative drills designed to<br />

provide maintenance of skills learned, including updates<br />

in technology relating to fire department organization,<br />

hoses, ladders, tools and equipment, salvage, fire<br />

chemistry, extinguishers and agents, fire control,<br />

prevention, arson, crowd and traffic control, mutual aid,<br />

communications, fire safety and emergency rescue<br />

techniques.<br />

FIRE 10B WILDLAND FIRE FIGHTER’S SKILLS<br />

MAINTENANCE<br />

Units: 1.5 - 16-18 hours lecture and 24-27 hours<br />

laboratory. This course will not apply to the Associate<br />

Degree. (Prerequisites: Employment as a wildland fire<br />

fighter or fire fighter serving a community with wildland<br />

or interface fire conditions. State mandated. Pass/No<br />

Pass.) This course may be taken four times.<br />

This course provides the fire fighter student with new<br />

information and skill development to maintain efficiency<br />

and effectiveness as a wildland fire fighter. New<br />

protocols, procedures and equipment are presented and<br />

student demonstrates proficiency in using tools, tactics<br />

and strategies for fire control.<br />

FIRE 10C COMPANY OFFICER’S SKILLS<br />

MAINTENANCE<br />

Units: 1.5 - 16-18 hours lecture and 24-27 hours<br />

laboratory. This course will not apply to the Associate<br />

Degree. (Prerequisites: Employment as a wildland fire<br />

fighter or fire fighter serving a community with wildland<br />

or interface fire conditions. State mandated. Pass/No<br />

Pass.) This course may be taken four times.<br />

This course provides the fire fighter company officer<br />

student with new information and skill development to<br />

maintain efficiency and effectiveness as a company<br />

officer and fire fighter. New policies, procedures and<br />

equipment are presented and student demonstrates<br />

proficiency in using tools, tactics and strategies for<br />

managing personnel, budgets and legal responsibilities<br />

in today’s fire service.<br />

FIRE 10D HAND CREW FIRE FIGHTER SKILLS<br />

MAINTENANCE<br />

Units: 1.5 - 16-18 hours lecture and 24-27 hours<br />

laboratory. This course will not apply to the Associate<br />

Degree. (Prerequisites: Employment as a hand crew fire<br />

fighter with a modern fire service agency. State<br />
