FIRE TECHNOLOGY<br />
FIRE 5I GROUND SUPPORT UNIT LEADER<br />
Units: 2.0 - 32-36 hours lecture. This course will not<br />
apply to the Associate degree. (Prerequisite: FIRE<br />
86/State mandated. Pass/No Pass)<br />
This course prepares the fire fighter student to work as<br />
a ground unit leader within the Incident Command<br />
System (ICS). Responsibilities of the ground unit leader,<br />
procedures and materials involved with the operation<br />
and function of the ground support unit are discussed.<br />
National Wild Land Coordinating Group certified.<br />
Certification fee is $5.<br />
FIRE 5.1J VOLUNTEER FIRE OFFICER’S ACADEMY<br />
Units: 2.0 - 32-36 hours lecture. This course will not<br />
apply to the Associate degree. (No prerequisite)<br />
This course is designed to provide the information and<br />
skills necessary for the fire fighter/and or driver operator<br />
who desire to promote to the rank of company officer;<br />
for company officers who desire to remain current with<br />
innovative management, leadership and human<br />
relations techniques; and for training officers who are<br />
responsible for teaching and developing officers and<br />
future officer candidates. This course is designed for the<br />
fire fighter student with essential fire fighter skills.<br />
FIRE 6A BASIC FIRE ENGINE OPERATION<br />
ACADEMY, CDF<br />
Units: 3.5 - 48-54 hours lecture and 64-72 hours<br />
laboratory. This course will not apply to the Associate<br />
Degree. (Prerequisites: Successful completion of Basic<br />
Forest Firefighter course, valid class B (commercial or<br />
firefighter) California Driver’s license with Tank and Air<br />
Brake Endorsements; successful completion of<br />
Hazardous Materials First Responder, Operational.<br />
State mandated. Pass/No Pass.)<br />
This course provides the student with the information<br />
and skills to safely drive and operate fire apparatus and<br />
fire pumps and provide initial attack incident control<br />
capabilities according to California Department of<br />
Forestry standards and policies.<br />
FIRE 6B FIRE ATTACK I: SET STANDARD FOR<br />
EXCELLENCE ON THE FIRE GROUND<br />
Units: 1.0 - 16-18 hours lecture. (Prerequisites:<br />
Employment with a recognized fire protection agency in<br />
a position of company officer or acting company officer,<br />
or enrollment within the fire officer certification program<br />
accredited by California Fire Services Training and<br />
Education System (CFSTES) or National Fire Protection<br />
Association (NFPA) Standard 1021, Fire Officer<br />
Professional Standards. Grade Option)<br />
Fire Attack I is designed to provide the fire fighter with<br />
the latest information, tactics and strategies for<br />
combating structural fire incidents. Focus is on the<br />
decisions and responsibilities the first arriving company<br />
officer must consider to successfully mitigate the<br />
incident. This class will not apply to the Associate<br />
degree.<br />
FIRE 6C LEADERSHIP FUNDAMENTALS<br />
Units: 2.0 - 32-36 hours lecture. (No prerequisite.<br />
Pass/No Pass) This course may be taken again only<br />
with a grade of “D” or lower.<br />
This course is designed to prepare the fire fighter<br />
student within the California Department of Forestry to<br />
take a new position of company officer by providing<br />
skills in supervision and management. Topics include<br />
motivation, communication, discipline, leadership, time<br />
management and team building. This course will not<br />
apply to the Associate degree.<br />
FIRE 7 FIRST RESPONDER – MEDICAL<br />
Units: 2.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 10 hours laboratory.<br />
This course will not apply to the Associate Degree. (No<br />
prerequisite. Pass/No Pass)<br />
This course provides manipulative and technical<br />
instruction in emergency care procedures, including<br />
examining the victim, observing the surroundings,<br />
maintaining an airway, controlling bleeding, treating<br />
shock, childbirth emergencies, performing manual lifts<br />
and carries, and interfacing with emergency medical<br />
technicians and paramedics. This course meets present<br />
public safety emergency care requirements for fire<br />
service personnel.<br />
FIRE 7A FIRST RESPONDER MEDICAL,<br />
REFRESHER<br />
Units: 1.0 - 16-18 hours lecture and 8-9 hours<br />
laboratory. This course will not apply to the Associate<br />
Degree. (No Prerequisite. Pass/No Pass) This course<br />
may be taken four times.<br />
A 24-hour refresher course approved by the State Board<br />
of Fire Services and California State Fire Training for<br />
Recertification of first responders to medical<br />
emergencies.<br />
FIRE 8B EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN,<br />
REFRESHER<br />
Units: 0.5 - 8-9 hours lecture and 16-18 hours<br />
laboratory. This course will not apply to the Associate<br />
Degree. (Prerequisite: Must possess valid EMT I, State<br />
Fire Marshal’s certificate-State regulation. Pass/No<br />
Pass) This course may be taken four times.<br />
A 24-hour refresher course for fire service students who<br />
require recertification for Emergency Medical Technician<br />
I, State Fire Marshal or Fire Service certificates who do<br />
not operate ambulances or transport patients. Course<br />
approved by the State Board of Fire Services and State<br />
Fire Marshal’s office.<br />
