CIS 211A ADVANCED VB PROGRAMMING MODULE<br />

A: ADVANCED TOPICS<br />

Units: 4.0 - 48-54 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU (Prerequisite: CIS 210. Recommended:<br />

CIS 104)<br />

This is an advanced programming course using<br />

VB.NET. The course focuses on developing Object-<br />

Oriented applications using the latest Microsoft .NET<br />

technology. Topics covered include .NET Framework<br />

and CLR, class implementation, inheritance,<br />

polymorphism, exception handling, multithreading,<br />

developing custom controls for Windows forms and Web<br />

forms, etc.<br />

CIS 211B ADVANCED VB PROGRAMMING MODULE<br />

B: DATABASE PROGRAMMING<br />

Units: 4.0 - 48-54 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU (Prerequisites: CIS 210 and CIS 280,<br />

or equivalent)<br />

This is an advanced programming course using<br />

VB.NET. The course focuses on developing<br />

desktop/Web applications using Microsoft’s new<br />

ADO.NET technology. ADO.NET, based on XML,<br />

provides platform interoperability and scalable data<br />

access. Topics covered include the .NET Framework,<br />

ADO.NET, SQL, DataSet, XML, ADO.NET classes<br />

libraries, Web Services, etc.<br />

CIS 211C ADVANCED VB PROGRAMMING MODULE<br />

C: WEB PROGRAMMING<br />

Units: 4.0 - 48-54 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU (Prerequisites: CIS 210 and CIS 205,<br />

or equivalent. Recommended: CIS 261 and 262)<br />

This is an advanced programming course using<br />

VB.NET. The course focuses on developing Web<br />

applications using Microsoft’s ASP.NET technology.<br />

ASP.NET is a powerful server-based technology,<br />

designed to create dynamic Web sites and Web-based<br />

distributed applications, or corporate intranet<br />

applications. Topics covered include the .NET<br />

Framework, ASP.NET class libraries, Web forms,<br />

ASP.NET Server controls, ASP.NET Data Access. XML<br />

and Web Services, ASP.NET mobile controls, etc.<br />

CIS 240A WINDOWS VISTA PROFESSIONAL<br />

Units: 4.0 - 48-54 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU. (Prerequisite: CIS 101 or equivalent)<br />

An introduction to operating system design and<br />

operation using Windows Vista Professional version.<br />

Topics include: the design and philosophy of the<br />

Windows vista operating system, the differences<br />

between various Windows Vista versions, user issues in<br />

Windows Vista such as using Vista’s Graphical User<br />

Interface, and basic installation issues. Emphasis will be<br />

given to comparing Windows Vista Workstation and<br />

Windows 2003 Server. Hands-on experience will be<br />

stressed.<br />

CIS 240B INTRODUCTION TO MICROSOFT<br />

WINDOWS 2003 SERVER ADMINISTRATION<br />

Units: 4.0 - 48-54 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU (Prerequisite: CIS 240A or equivalent).<br />

Students will learn how to administer a Windows NT<br />

Server system on a network. Topics include: installation,<br />

user management, security, performance issues,<br />

domains, World Wide Web and related services, using<br />

NT and other network operation systems, network<br />

printing, the NT registry, backups, and setting up<br />

applications.<br />

CIS 252 NETWARE 6 ADVANCED ADMINISTRATION<br />

Units: 2.5 - 32-36 hours lecture and 24-27 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU. (Prerequisite: CIS 72 with a grade of<br />

‘C’ or better.)<br />

Equivalent of Novell Course 3043. Learn the advanced<br />

skills involved in the administration of NetWare<br />

networks, including improving the performance of your<br />

network and server, managing Novell directory Services<br />

(NDS) partitioning and replication, time synchronization<br />

strategies and integrating NetWare. It is one of five<br />

courses needed for Certified NetWare Engineer<br />

certification (CNE).<br />

CIS 261 UNIX SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION A<br />

Units: 2.0 - 16-18 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU. (Prerequisite: CIS 90 with a grade of<br />

‘C’ or better.)<br />

UNIX system administrators are responsible for the<br />

operation of UNIX systems—the most common server<br />

platform on the Internet. Learn how to setup, manage,<br />

and maintain UNIX systems. Topics include: the role of<br />

the system administrator in an organization, UNIX<br />

variants, installation, booting and shutting down,<br />

backups, managing users.<br />

CIS 262 UNIX SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION B<br />

Units: 2.0 - 16-18 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU. (No prerequisite.)<br />

This second UNIX system administration course covers<br />

advanced UNIX administration topics, including system<br />

security, setting up and managing Internet services such<br />

as Hypertext Transfer Protocol, File Transfer Protocol,<br />

and e-mail.<br />

CIS 280 FUNDAMENTALS OF DATABASE<br />

MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS<br />

Units: 3.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU. (No prerequisite)<br />
