COMPUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS<br />

CIS 64 COMPUTER MATHEMATICS<br />

Units: 3.0 - 24-27 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. (No prerequisite.)<br />

Computer mathematics for the computer science major.<br />

Introduction to number bases, set theory, Venn<br />

diagrams, logic, Boolean algebra, algebraic<br />

expressions, exponents, linear and quadratic equations,<br />

matrices, mathematical sequences and series, linear<br />

programming and logarithmic functions.<br />

CIS 67 FUNDAMENTALS OF NETWORKING<br />

Units: 3.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory OR 96-108 hours individualized instruction.<br />

(No prerequisite. Recommended preparation: CIS 101.)<br />

This course presents a broad overview of the<br />

fundamentals of networking computers. It discusses in<br />

some detail the various network topologies,<br />

architectures, industrial standard, standards-defining<br />

organization, and the practical use of networks. This<br />

course is designed to prepare students to take the<br />

Network+ certification exam from CompTIA.<br />

CIS 72 NOVELL NETWARE 6 BASIC<br />

ADMINISTRATION<br />

Units: 2.5 - 24-27 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory OR 80-90 hours individualized instruction.<br />

(No prerequisite)<br />

This course provides instruction on the fundamentals of<br />

system administration for NetWare 6x. It is designed to<br />

provide students with the necessary knowledge and<br />

skills to perform competently in the role of network<br />

administrator or system manager. Students completing<br />

this course will be able to accomplish basic and<br />

fundamental network management tasks in a NetWare<br />

6x environment. This course is highly recommended for<br />

those seeking the Certified NetWare Engineer<br />

certification from Novell Corporation and for new<br />

NetWare 6x administrators.<br />

CIS 75 INTRODUCTION TO NETWORK SECURITY:<br />

NETWORK+<br />

Units: 3.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory OR 96-108 hours individualized instruction.<br />

(No prerequisite)<br />

Presents security topics covering general security<br />

concepts, communications security, infrastructure<br />

security, basics of cryptography, operational and<br />

organizational security. Topics include hacking, viruses,<br />

cryptography, detection and prevention on both wired<br />

and wireless LANs.<br />

This course teaches network administrators, network<br />

designers, and networking consultants the skills needed<br />

to create a Novell Directory Services (NDS) design and<br />

implementation strategy. Students will complete an NDS<br />

design and strategy implementation schedule using<br />

templates that can be reused to create a design for their<br />

workplace.<br />

CIS 80 OPERATING SYSTEMS: MAC OS X<br />

Units: 3.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. (No Prerequisite)<br />

This course introduces the Mac OS X operating system.<br />

Topics include the graphical user interface, OS X<br />

preferences, account management, spotlight, disk<br />

management, printing, networking, program installation<br />

and removal, system security, email, Internet access,<br />

display management, address book, calendaring, voice<br />

over IP, instant messaging, quicktime, and support.<br />

CIS 81 ILIFE APPLICATIONS<br />

Units: 3.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. (No Prerequisite)<br />

This course is designed for the beginning Apple user<br />

who wants to get the full use out of their computer’s<br />

capability to create, modify and design digital images,<br />

music, videos (home movies) and podcasts.<br />

CIS 83 PROGRAMMING IN PYTHON<br />

Units: 4.0 - 48-54 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. (No Prerequisite)<br />

Python is a popular programming language that has<br />

taken a primary role in many companies including<br />

NASA, Google, Industrial Lights and Magic. Python<br />

uses an elegant syntax, making the programs easier to<br />

write and read, which also makes it an ideal language<br />

for beginning programmers. The foundation that<br />

students achieve can be applied to digital animation<br />

programs, and game programming. No prior<br />

programming experience is assumed.<br />

CIS 90 INTRODUCTION TO THE UNIX OPERATING<br />

SYSTEM<br />

Units: 4.0 - 48-54 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. (No Prerequisite)<br />

This course introduces the Unix and Linux operating<br />

systems. Topics include the history of Unix, commands<br />

and utilities, file system structure, shells, graphical user<br />

interfaces, networking, text editing and shell<br />

programming.<br />

CIS 79 NOVELL DIRECTORY SERVICES DESIGN<br />

AND IMPLEMENTATION<br />

Units: 2.5 - 32-36 hours lecture and 24-27 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU (Prerequisite: CIS 72)<br />

CIS 91A MYSQL ADMIN A<br />
