BUSINESS REAL ESTATE AND ESCROW<br />

REAL ESTATE SECRETARIAL SERVICES<br />

CERTIFICATE<br />

Units Required: 21.0 units minimum<br />

The Certificate program will prepare the student for<br />

secretarial services within a real estate office by<br />

enhancing the practical knowledge of real estate and<br />

introducing computer applications in spreadsheets,<br />

database, and word processing.<br />

Group I - All of the following must be completed:<br />

BRE 100 Real Estate Principles 3.0<br />

BRE 101 Real Estate Practices 3.0<br />

BRE 110 Legal Aspects of Real Estate I 3.0<br />

BESC 141 Escrow I 3.0<br />

BET 65 Speedwriting 3.0<br />

Group II - Any two of the following must be completed:<br />

BRE 127 Real Estate Office Administration 3.0<br />

BET 104 Beginning Word Processing/Typing:<br />

Word for Windows A/B/C 3.0<br />

BET 112 Spreadsheet: Excel for Windows<br />

A/B/C 3.0<br />

REAL ESTATE MARKETING CERTIFICATE<br />

Units Required: 24.0<br />

This Certificate program prepares those interested in<br />

professionally marketing real estate by examining the<br />

elements which bring buyers and sellers together.<br />

Group I - All of the following must be completed:<br />

BRE 100 Real Estate Principles 3.0<br />

BRE 126 Real Estate Finance 3.0<br />

BRE 139 Real Estate Economics 3.0<br />

BRE 142 Real Estate Marketing 3.0<br />

BADM 112 Introduction to Marketing 3.0<br />

BADM 116 Human Relations in Business 3.0<br />

Group II - Any two of the following must be completed:<br />

BADM 114 Sales 3.0<br />

BRE 125 Taxes and Real Estate Investment 3.0<br />

BADM 144 Business Communications 3.0<br />

Associate Degree<br />

To earn an Associate in Science degree with a major in<br />

Business Real Estate and Escrow, complete a minimum<br />

of 18 units from any of the certificate requirements<br />

above or from any Business Escrow or Business Real<br />

Estate courses, and meet all <strong>Victor</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

graduation requirements. BESC 138 (Cooperative<br />

Education) and BRE 138 (Cooperative Education)<br />

may be used as Elective credit but may not be used to<br />

fulfill major requirements.<br />

Transfer<br />

Not usually a transfer major. Many Business Escrow<br />

and Business Real Estate courses transfer as Electives<br />

or fulfill subject credit requirements. Students in this<br />

program often choose to pursue a bachelor’s degree in<br />

Business Administration. See Business Administration<br />

for transfer requirements.<br />

BUSINESS REAL ESTATE COURSES<br />

These classes are open to all students with an interest<br />

in Real Estate. They are not just for Licensees.<br />

BRE 51 MORTGAGE LOAN BROKERING AND<br />

LENDING<br />

Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. Elective for Broker’s<br />

License. (No prerequisite)<br />

This course provides the student with the broad<br />

technical knowledge of both the state and federal laws<br />

governing the mortgage loan brokerage business and<br />

other lending practices in the state of California. General<br />

topics include disclosure statements, RESPA, fair<br />

lending practices, trust fund handling, hard money<br />

lenders, third party originators, reporting requirements,<br />

and securities in the lending industry. Satisfies one of<br />

the course requirements for a non-conditional real<br />

estate salesperson’s license or for the real estate<br />

broker’s examination.<br />

BRE 54 PRINCIPLES OF MORTGAGE ORIGINATION<br />

Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. (No prerequisite)<br />

This course is designed to provide the student with<br />

basic skills needed to originate loans. It includes taking<br />

the borrower from the qualification process to designing<br />

a loan that will fit individual needs. This course helps<br />

demonstrate how to find the right loan among the maze<br />

of multiple programs available to the borrower.<br />

BRE 55 PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF<br />

MORTGAGE PROCESSING<br />

Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. (No prerequisite)<br />

This course provides the student with the basics of loan<br />

processing and an overview of underwriting regulations<br />

and industry terminology. Students learn how to<br />

efficiently package and submit a loan for underwriting<br />

and approval. This course demonstrates how to analyze<br />

a loan application and relevant documents necessary<br />

for a loan submission. State and federal mandatory<br />

guidelines and disclosures are also discussed.<br />

BRE 56 INTRODUCTION TO FINANCIAL PLANNING<br />

Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. (No prerequisite)<br />

Financial planning draws upon several business<br />

disciplines such as finance, banking, insurance, and real<br />

estate as well as behavioral sciences that include<br />
