PROGRAMS / COURSE DESCRIPTION<br />
examines the historical and contemporary value of art to<br />
both the individual and society. Consideration will also<br />
be given to a study of the organization and component<br />
parts of the visual art and the various media used in the<br />
making of art.<br />
ART 106 ART CONCEPTS<br />
Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. CSU, UC. (No<br />
prerequisite. Grade Option)<br />
This illustrated lecture course will introduce students to<br />
the practice, theory and history of art. Art’s impact upon<br />
our contemporary society as well as its reflection of<br />
history and meaning will be investigated.<br />
will be placed on the principles and practices of design<br />
involved in the production of art forms. Lectures will<br />
demonstrate examples of design in classic and<br />
contemporary works of art.<br />
ART 113 DESIGN II<br />
Units: 3.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />
laboratory. CSU, UC. (No prerequisite)<br />
A continuation of Art 112 utilizing the same principles of<br />
design expanded to color and three dimension.<br />
Critiques and lectures will focus student’s evaluative<br />
skills in applying comprehension of art history to<br />
contemporary concepts of design.<br />
ART AND DESIGN<br />
ART 107 THE ART AND LIFE OF GREECE<br />
Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. CSU, UC (UC credit<br />
pending). (No prerequisite.)<br />
This is an illustrated lecture course focusing on art of<br />
the ancient Greek world from c. 1100 BCE to the 1 st<br />
Century. Emphasis is placed upon analysis of the<br />
various styles of Greek art from the formative period of<br />
Hellenism. The art works are studied and analyzed<br />
within the cultural/historical context of the Greek world<br />
including mythology, philosophy, and social structure as<br />
these relate to the development of Greek art.<br />
ART 108 THE ART AND LIFE OF ITALY<br />
Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. CSU, UC. (No<br />
prerequisite.)<br />
This is an illustrated lecture course focusing on the arts<br />
of Ancient Rome and its influence upon the<br />
development of the Western art world. This study<br />
focuses on the role of the Etruscans in the development<br />
of the early arts of the Roman Empire including the<br />
changes brought by the influence of Christianity with a<br />
look at the later development of the arts of Italy.<br />
ART 109 SURVEY OF AFRICAN AMERICAN ART<br />
Units: 3.0 - 48-54 hours lecture. CSU. (No prerequisite.<br />
Grade Option)<br />
This course will survey the arts of the African peoples in<br />
diaspora from traditional African arts to contemporary<br />
times. Focus will be on identification of artists, art styles<br />
within their historical, cultural, political framework and<br />
exploration of aesthetic preference.<br />
ART 112 DESIGN I<br />
Units: 3.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />
laboratory. CSU, UC. (No prerequisite) This course may<br />
be taken four times.<br />
The focus of this course will be on the basics of design<br />
utilizing black and white graphic elements. Emphasis<br />
ART 115 WATER-BASED MEDIA<br />
Units: 3.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />
laboratory. CSU, UC. (No prerequisite) This course may<br />
be taken two times.<br />
An introduction to basic water-based painting media and<br />
the methods used for applying pigment to paper. Color<br />
theory, design principles and a comprehensive history of<br />
the medium will be included.<br />
ART 120 ACRYLIC PAINTING I<br />
Units: 3.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />
laboratory. CSU, UC. (No prerequisite. Recommended<br />
preparation: ART 112 or ART 113 or ART 125.) This<br />
course may be taken two times.<br />
This course is an introduction to acrylic painting<br />
methods and techniques with an emphasis on<br />
composition, color, and application of general design<br />
principles.<br />
ART 121 ACRYLIC PAINTING II<br />
Units: 3.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />
laboratory. CSU, UC. (No prerequisite. Recommended<br />
preparation: ART 120.) This course may be taken two<br />
times.<br />
This is an intermediate course in acrylic painting<br />
methods and techniques with continuing study of the<br />
theory and practice of painting.<br />
ART 122 LIFE DRAWING I<br />
Units: 3.0 - 32-36 hours lecture and 48-54 hours<br />
laboratory. CSU,UC. (No prerequisite. ART 125 or ART<br />
126 recommended.) This course may be taken four<br />
times.<br />
A beginning life drawing course emphasizing the study<br />
and analysis of the human form using basic art<br />
materials and fundamental drawing concepts.<br />
