located in the dramatic 25m high glass atrium <strong>of</strong> the Imperial War Museum. Founded in<br />

1917, the Museum is the perfect setting for this renowned event.<br />

You will be dining in the striking large exhibits gallery, along with a rare <strong>and</strong> unique Battle <strong>of</strong><br />

Britain Spitfire; a Second World War North American P51 Mustang <strong>and</strong> Montgomery’s tank,<br />

OUR SPEAKER<br />

Rt. Hon Philip Hammond MP<br />

Secretary <strong>of</strong> State for <strong>Defence</strong><br />

Philip was brought up in Essex, attending a local state<br />

school. He went to Oxford to study Philosophy, Politics<br />

<strong>and</strong> Economics in October 1974, gaining a First Class<br />

degree.<br />

He subsequently had a wide-ranging business career<br />

spanning the house-building <strong>and</strong> property, healthcare<br />

equipment, manufacturing, <strong>and</strong> oil <strong>and</strong> gas sectors. He<br />

also undertook consulting assignments in Latin America<br />

for the World Bank, <strong>and</strong> worked as a consultant for the<br />

Government <strong>of</strong> Malawi.<br />

Philip contested Newham North East in 1994, <strong>and</strong> was elected as the Member <strong>of</strong><br />

Parliament for Runnymede <strong>and</strong> Weybridge in 1997.<br />

In June 1998, he was appointed Shadow Minister for Health. In 2001 he became Shadow<br />

Trade <strong>and</strong> <strong>Industry</strong> Minister <strong>and</strong> Shadow Minister for Small Business, <strong>and</strong> between 2002<br />

<strong>and</strong> 2005 he served as Shadow Minister for Local Government <strong>and</strong> Regions.<br />

In May 2005, Philip was appointed Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury before<br />

becoming Shadow Secretary <strong>of</strong> State for Work <strong>and</strong> Pensions in December <strong>of</strong> that year.<br />

In July 2007 he resumed the position <strong>of</strong> Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury.<br />

After the General Election in 2010, Philip was appointed Secretary <strong>of</strong> State for Transport<br />

in the Coalition Government. He was appointed Secretary <strong>of</strong> State for <strong>Defence</strong> by Prime<br />

Minister David Cameron on 15 October 2011.<br />
