The refined compost is lead <strong>on</strong> a moving belt for humificati<strong>on</strong> where it is piled<br />

up for maturati<strong>on</strong>. 15% of the composite produced is st<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g>ardized <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

packaged in sacks while the remainder may be utilized as fill in material. Of the<br />

sorted material, the unusable material that is produced from the Refining unit<br />

is collected into a c<strong>on</strong>tainer <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> transferred by vehicle for final disposal at a<br />

nearby SSBSW. (P.A.C., 2009)<br />

11.4.3.Project LIFE03 ENV/GR/205 (Com<strong>waste</strong>)<br />

The beneficiary/coordinator of the project was the Nati<strong>on</strong>al Technical<br />

University of Athens (NTUA) while the associated beneficiaries were the<br />

Municipalities of Kifissia, Acharnes <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> Nea Halkid<strong>on</strong>a. 90 composting systems<br />

(Figure.) were installed in 90 selected <strong>household</strong>s (30 in each Municipality), 8<br />

systems were installed in the <strong>household</strong>s of 8 members of the NTUA scientific<br />

team <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> 2 systems run in the Laboratory of Envir<strong>on</strong>mental Science <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
