The drier gives a water evaporati<strong>on</strong> rate of approximately 8.300 kg/h <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> a<br />
sludge output of 11.000 kg/hr.. The plant operates 7 days a week <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> 24<br />
hours a day <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> the total material is (> 92 % DS).<br />
The drying plant at Susteren works by c<strong>on</strong>veying (7 m 3 /h max). The next<br />
step is the heating of the sludge in a boiler before agitating the mixture to<br />
breakdown large agglomerati<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> the removal of any metal<br />
c<strong>on</strong>taminants. Sludge is then transferred for drying with the help of an oil<br />
heat exchanger (max 225 o C). Air is induced by two 85,000 m 3 /h fans<br />
through the vat’s bottom lining plates, mixing air through the sludge which<br />
has an average depth of 4-5m.<br />
This process c<strong>on</strong>tinues while dust <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> moisture is driven off through the<br />
cycl<strong>on</strong>e system which has an air stream performance of 59,000 m 3 /h. The<br />
dust <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> air is sent back to the (FD) This gives a 60% sec<strong>on</strong>dary mix in the<br />
vat. Sludge cooling is aided by the exhaust gas taken from the oil boiler to<br />
bring sludge temperature down to below 40 o C.
