2004 the Waste Partnership have been working in partnership with WRAP<br />
(Waste Resource Acti<strong>on</strong> Programme) who have been providing home<br />
composters at a very competitive rate to the residents of the county. Each<br />
<strong>household</strong> receives leaflets outlining the promoti<strong>on</strong> every year <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> the Waste<br />
Partnership sents out press releases, as well as promoting this scheme within<br />
the A to Z of Recycling <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> the County Council’s website.<br />
This partnership has benefited from the following c<strong>on</strong>tributi<strong>on</strong> from WRAP:<br />
(i) The provisi<strong>on</strong> of a range of home compost bins <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> accessories to be sold at<br />
subsidised rates in partnership area. This year’s prices have been £6.00 for a<br />
330ltr <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> £4.00 for 220ltr including delivery, <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> each <strong>household</strong> can purchase<br />
up to 3 bins.<br />
(ii) Storage, order processing <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> delivery of the home compost bins to the<br />
individual <strong>household</strong>s.<br />
(iii) Organisati<strong>on</strong> of <strong>on</strong>e day sale events.<br />
(iv) Promoti<strong>on</strong>al material, advertising, advice <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> support services for home<br />
composting activity.<br />
(v) Additi<strong>on</strong>al materials <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> events such as videos, seminars, training as agreed<br />
appropriate to support the schemes.<br />
(vi) Access to a free helpline for residents.<br />
(vii) Home Composting Advisors dedicated to support us in our area.<br />
All six of the Warwickshire authorities exceeded their statutory recycling <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
composting targets for 2005/06 with 30% being attained countywide, (30% is<br />
Warwickshire County Councils recycling <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> composting rate, each of the<br />
district councils has met or exceeded their 2005/06 target<br />
The county has made progress with the recycling <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> composting targets set by<br />
reaching 30%, however the target for 2010 is (40-45% by 2010) . Compared to<br />
other Shire Counties <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> Unitary authorities Warwickshire is still lagging<br />
behind <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> has some way to go particularly with respect to increasing levels of<br />
recycling. (Warwick District Council., 2010)
